The deeds of power of the brave are inconceivable, that is to say, there is mastery over life, mastery over mind, mastery over resources, mastery over karma, mastery over birth, mastery over faith, mastery over aspiration, mastery over miracles, mastery over wisdom, and for the sake of mastery over Dharma. The activities of all Buddhas are inconceivable in order to accomplish the deeds of the Buddhas. If these are briefly summarized, then the characteristics of the truth of origin should be known as fourfold: the characteristic of cause, the characteristic of origin, the characteristic of arising, and the characteristic of condition. What is the characteristic of cause? Because it is the agent that places the imprints of rebirth, it should be known as the characteristic of cause. What is the characteristic of origin? Because it is the agent of origin for those accumulated imprints of sentient beings in this and that class of sentient beings, it should be known as the characteristic of origin. What is the characteristic of arising? Because it is the agent of arising individually, both all and supreme, it should be regarded as the characteristic of arising. What is the characteristic of condition? Because it is the agent of obtaining other and other, and of passing away, it should be known as the characteristic of condition. Fourth fascicle. What is the truth of cessation? It should be known as the truth of cessation by means of characteristics, profundity, indication, ultimate meaning, incompleteness, completeness, absence of adornment, presence of adornment, remainder, absence of remainder, particular excellence, and also by means of various terms. What is it like in terms of characteristics? It is suchness, and the path and afflictions do not arise, that is, where it ceases, by what it ceases, and what it ceases. The Blessed One said: "Where the eye and ear, likewise the nose and tongue and body, the mind and likewise name and form, will all be extinguished." It is like this that it is said. Again it is said: "Where the eye ceases, and the perception of color becomes non-existent, and between dharmas it ceases, and the perception of dharmas becomes non-existent, that should be known as the place." By these terms, where one focuses on suchness, with outflows

That which is the cessation of things is the characteristic of cessation. How is it profound? The cessation from the destruction of those formations is not said to be other, nor is it said to be not other, nor is it said to be both other and not other, nor is it said to be neither other nor not other. Why is that? Because there is no elaboration. Elaboration here refers to improper attention. The Blessed One said, as it is said, "When the six sense bases of contact are exhausted, destroyed, ceased, pacified, and disappeared, is there anything else?" Without elaboration, one elaborates. Is there nothing else? Is there both something and nothing? Is there neither something nor nothing else? Again, without elaboration, one elaborates. As long as the six sense bases exist, there is elaboration. When the six sense bases cease, there is no elaboration, and it is shown as peaceful nirvana. Like that. How is it in terms of convention? It is the cessation that occurs when the seed is weakened by the worldly path. Therefore, the Blessed One said that as its synonym, nirvana is attained through its limb. How is it in terms of ultimate meaning? It is the cessation that occurs when the seed is completely destroyed by the wisdom of the noble ones. How is it in terms of incompleteness? It can be included in the fruit of stream-enterer, or included in the fruit of once-returner, or included in the fruit of non-returner. What is the cessation of those who are still learning? How is it in terms of completeness? What is the cessation of those who are no longer learning, included in the fruit of arhat? How is it in terms of non-adornment? What is the cessation of arhats who are liberated by wisdom? How is it in terms of adornment? What is the cessation of arhats who are liberated from both aspects and possess the three knowledges and six supernormal powers? How is it in terms of having remainder? What is the cessation with the remainder of aggregates? How is it in terms of having no remainder? What is the cessation without the remainder of aggregates? How is it in terms of being particularly excellent? The non-abiding of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
