Practicing and not practicing virtue, thereby manifestly accomplishing suffering in the future, thus uniting with suffering. The pervasive union of miserliness is clinging to the mind for those who have a particular attachment to gain and honor. Possessing the pervasive union of miserliness is cherishing etc., not cherishing the diminution of resources, because cherishing etc., one practices non-virtue and does not practice virtue, thereby manifestly accomplishing suffering in the future, thus uniting with suffering. There are three bonds: the bond of desire, the bond of hatred, and the bond of delusion. The bond of desire binds to the suffering of change itself. The bond of hatred binds to the suffering of suffering itself. The bond of delusion binds to the suffering of conditioning itself. Furthermore, relying on desire, hatred, and delusion, one cannot achieve what one desires when engaging in virtue, therefore these are also bonds. There are seven latent predispositions: the latent predisposition of desire for desire, the latent predisposition of anger, the latent predisposition of desire for existence, the latent predisposition of pride, the latent predisposition of ignorance, the latent predisposition of views, and the latent predisposition of doubt. The latent predisposition of desire for desire is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of desire for desire. The latent predisposition of anger is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of anger. The latent predisposition of desire for existence is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of desire for form and formlessness. The latent predisposition of pride is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of pride. The latent predisposition of ignorance is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of ignorance. The latent predisposition of views is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of views. The latent predisposition of doubt is the unfavorable situation that accords with the aspect of doubt. By not abandoning the search for desire, the latent predisposition of desire for desire and the latent predisposition of anger will increase. By not abandoning the search for existence, the latent predisposition of desire for existence will increase. Practicing pure conduct through wrong paths

Abandoning seeking will increase the latent tendencies of pride, the latent tendencies of ignorance, the latent tendencies of views, and the latent tendencies of doubt. Like this, they are satisfied even with a small antidote. One becomes ignorant of the truths. One contemplates liberation and the means of liberation with wrong views. One doubts the teachings of the Buddhas, the sacred Dharma, the Vinaya, and so on. One has doubts. Near afflictions are those afflictions that are also near afflictions. There are also near afflictions that are not afflictions. Other than afflictions, the aggregates of formations that arise from the mind are afflicted. Furthermore, desire is a near affliction that arises from the mind. Hatred and delusion are near afflictions that arise from the mind. When the mind becomes afflicted by these near afflictions, it will not be separated from attachment, it will not be liberated, because those obscurations have not been abandoned. As the Bhagavan said: "This mind has long been defiled by desire, defiled by hatred and delusion." Like that. The secondary defilements are eight: lethargy, sleep, excitement, regret, jealousy, stinginess, shamelessness, and recklessness. During the time of calm abiding, during the time of ascertainment, during the time of equanimity, and during the time of their initial basis of complete purity, they repeatedly and mostly cling to the mind, so they are secondary defilements. There are four rivers: the river of desire, the river of existence, the river of views, and the river of ignorance. Because they carry beings towards the direction of samsara, they are rivers. Engaging in seeking desire is the first. Engaging in seeking existence is the second. Engaging in seeking pure conduct with wrong views are the last two, in the manner of abiding and abiding in relation. There are four bonds: the bond of desire, the bond of existence, the bond of views, and the bond of ignorance. Because they obstruct liberation, they are bonds. Those are also engaging in seeking.
