It will also transform. What is the object? All afflictions are regarded as the object of all afflictions. The basis of affliction is also the object. Except for ignorance, views, and doubt, the afflictions that operate in the desire realm do not take higher grounds as their object. The afflictions of higher grounds do not take lower grounds as their object. Afflictions that take cessation and the path as their object should not be regarded as taking them as their object, because their object is what is completely conceived by them. Afflictions that take no basis as their object are associated with views. Other than that, they take what has a basis as their object. What are the associations? Desire is not associated with anger. Just as with anger, it is also the same with doubt. The rest are associated with it. Just as with desire and anger, anger is also not associated with desire, pride, and views. Pride is not associated with anger and doubt. Ignorance is associated with all afflictions, and also with non-mingling. Non-mingling is not knowing the truth. Views are not associated with anger and doubt. Doubt is not associated with desire, pride, and views. The near afflictions such as anger are not associated with each other. Shamelessness and recklessness are associated with all unwholesome things. Agitation, drowsiness, lack of faith, laziness, and carelessness are associated with all that have afflictions. What are the categories? Connections, bonds, latent tendencies, near afflictions, pervasive entanglements, torrents, yokes, grasping, knots, veils, taints, stains, sins, arrows, anything, misconduct, outflows, deficiencies, pervasive burning, disturbances, conflicts, plagues, thickets, and obstructions. How many kinds of connections are there? How and where do they bind? There are nine kinds of connections: the connection of attachment, the connection of anger.
