It is at the time when body and mind are together. Continuous correspondence is interrupted by unconscious absorption. External correspondence is mostly the consciousness and mental factors that are highly associated with the desire realm. Internal correspondence is mostly the consciousness and mental factors of the samadhi grounds. Familiar correspondence is the consciousness and mental factors of each being, and some of those who are learners and non-learners. Unfamiliar correspondence is the first and subsequent of the consciousness and mental factors of those who have transcended the world, and those who have attained after transcending the world. What is the benefit of being skilled in correspondence? Only for consciousness, through feelings and so on, and pervasive afflictions and pure dharmas, one knows correspondence and non-correspondence. Knowing this, then I feel, I intend, I think, I remember, I pervade afflictions, I purify, thereby abandoning manifest clinging and entering into selflessness. What is possessing? In terms of nature, it is as before. In terms of differentiation, it is possessing seeds, possessing power, and possessing universal arising. What is possessing seeds? One who is born in the desire realm possesses the seeds of afflictions and near afflictions that are highly associated with the desire realm, as well as afflictions and near afflictions that are highly associated with the form and formless realms, and the virtues obtained by birth. One who will be born in the form realm is also said to possess the seeds of afflictions and near afflictions that are highly associated with the desire realm, and is not possessing. Possessing the afflictions and near afflictions that are highly associated with the form realm and the formless realm, and the virtues obtained by birth. One who is born in the formless realm possesses the afflictions and near afflictions that are highly associated with the desire realm and the form realm.

It is also called having seeds and not having seeds. Corresponding to the formless realm and the very strong afflictions, as well as the near afflictions, and the seeds of virtue obtained by birth, so it is corresponding. Obtaining the antidote to the three realms means that for which antidote has arisen, one no longer has the seed of that antidote; and for which antidote has not yet arisen, one has the seed of that antidote, so it is corresponding. What is having mastery? The virtuous worldly dharmas arising from application, as well as the supramundane meditations, liberations, samadhis, equanimities, and so on, and among the unspecified dharmas, some are corresponding with having mastery. What is having universal arising? From the aggregates, elements, and sources, whether virtuous, non-virtuous, specified, or unspecified, whatever dharma manifests, one corresponds with the universal arising of that dharma. One who has severed the root of virtue is also called corresponding and not corresponding with the seeds of virtuous dharmas. Constantly corresponding with all afflictions should be regarded as those greedy ones who cannot completely be liberated from suffering, because they do not have the cause of liberation, so it is constant, that is, not corresponding with the cause. What benefit can be obtained by being proficient in correspondence? One can know the increase and decrease of dharmas. If one understands increase and decrease, one will not cling to a fixed view of worldly perfection or decline, but will abandon attachment and anger. In the Abhidharma-samuccaya, it is called the Commentary on the Compendium of Meanings, which is the first chapter of the Compendium. Third volume. What is ascertainment? That is, ascertainment of truth, ascertainment of dharma, ascertainment of attainment, and ascertainment of related words. What is ascertainment of truth? That is, the Four Noble Truths: suffering, origin, cessation, and path. What is the truth of suffering? This can be understood through the birth of sentient beings and the place of birth. What is the birth of sentient beings? That is, the sentient beings in hell, and...
