So, how should the classification be viewed? It should be viewed in three ways: the giving of Dharma, the giving of material things, the giving of fearlessness; the discipline of vows, the discipline of accumulating virtuous Dharmas, the discipline of benefiting sentient beings; the patience of not minding harm, the patience of accepting suffering, the patience of definitely contemplating the Dharma; the armor-like diligence, the diligence of practice, the diligence of not being discouraged or disturbed and being content with the present; abiding, manifest accomplishment, the samadhi of accomplishing activities; practicing without conceptualization, non-conceptualization, the wisdom attained after non-conceptualization. In short, how should these be viewed? Because these encompass the nature of all virtuous Dharmas, as well as what is in accordance with it, and its result. So, how should it be viewed that these incompatible aspects encompass all afflictions? By its nature, its basis, and its result. How should the benefits of these perfections be understood? When wandering in samsara, possessing power, obtaining a great birth, possessing any side and a large retinue, being entrusted with great tasks and successfully accomplishing them, being free from harm, possessing fewer afflictions, being proficient in crafts, treatises, and all fields of knowledge, possessing a noble and flawless status, and abiding near to benefiting all sentient beings until abiding in the essence of enlightenment, these are the benefits of the Bodhisattvas. How should the mutual determinations of these be viewed? In some cases, the Bhagavan taught all perfections as the sound of giving, in some cases as the sound of discipline, in some cases as the sound of patience, in some cases as the sound of diligence, in some cases as the sound of samadhi, and in some cases as the sound of wisdom, so what was his intention? When practicing all perfections, his intention lies in encompassing the conduct of all these. Thus, it is the nature of what is to be known.

After explaining the causes and results of entering (the ten Bhumis), how should one view the excellent distinctions of practicing it? One should observe the ten Bhumis of the Bodhisattvas. What are these? They are: Joyful, Immaculate, Luminous, Blazing, Very Difficult to Conquer, Manifest, Far-Reaching, Immovable, Good Intelligence, and Cloud of Dharma. How should one view the establishment of these as ten Bhumis? Because they are the antidotes to the ten types of non-knowing that are unfavorable. Thus, the knowable realm of Dharma has ten aspects, and the ten types of non-knowing that are unfavorable reside there. What are the ten aspects of the knowable realm of Dharma like? It should be understood that the first Bhumi is the meaning of pervasiveness. The second is the meaning of excellence. The third is the excellence of the meaning of the same cause. The fourth is the meaning of non-apprehension. The fifth is the meaning of non-different continuum. The sixth is the meaning of universal affliction and non-purity. The seventh is the meaning of non-difference of various Dharma mixtures. The eighth is the meaning of non-decrease and non-increase, as well as the meaning of the state of mastery over characteristics, and the meaning of the state of mastery over fields. The ninth is the meaning of the state of mastery over wisdom. It should be understood that the tenth Bhumi is the meaning of the state of mastery over actions, as well as the meaning of the state of mastery over the doors of Dharani and Samadhi. Here are verses: The meaning of pervasiveness and the meaning of excellence, The excellence of the meaning of the same cause, The meaning of non-apprehension and non-different continuum, The meaning of non-affliction and purity, The nature of the meaning of non-difference, The nature of the meaning of non-decrease and non-increase, The place of the four aspects of mastery. Within the realm of Dharma is non-knowing, Not an affliction, but ten obscurations, The antidotes to the unfavorable aspects of the ten Bhumis, Are indeed those Bhumis. This non-knowing is not of an afflictive nature for the Hearers, but it should be understood as the afflictive nature of the Bodhisattvas. Why is the first Bhumi called Joyful? Because he initially obtained the ability to accomplish the benefit of self and others. Why is the second Bhumi called Immaculate?
