Why wouldn't the nature of other-power (paratantra) become non-existent in all of everything? If it doesn't exist, then the nature of perfect accomplishment (parinispanna) doesn't exist, so how wouldn't it become all non-existent? If the nature of other-power and perfect accomplishment were to become non-existent, then there would be the fault of afflictions and purification not existing. Afflictions and purification are objects. Therefore, it is not the case that everything is non-existent. Here is a verse: Other-power and perfect accomplishment, If not in any way existent, Afflictions and purification, Will always be non-existent. In the teachings of the Buddhas, the Bhagavad-Gitas, which are the greatly expanded Mahayana teachings, how should one understand the nature of complete imputation (parikalpita)? It should be understood by teaching the synonyms of non-existence. How should one understand the nature of other-power (paratantra)? It should be understood as like illusion, mirage, dream, optical illusion, image, echo, moon in water, and emanation. How should one understand the nature of perfect accomplishment (parinispanna)? It should be understood by teaching the four kinds of purification. Among the four kinds of purification, self-nature purification is like this: suchness, emptiness, the ultimate limit, signlessness, and ultimate truth, which is also the realm of phenomena. Stainless purification is like this: that itself is not associated with all obscurations. The purification of the path to attain that is like this: all the dharmas that are in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, and the perfections, etc. The purification of the object for generating that is like this: teaching the holy Dharma of the Great Vehicle, thus, that is the cause of purification, therefore it is not completely imputed. The realm of phenomena is the homogeneous cause of purification, therefore it is not other-power. These four aspects have encompassed all the dharmas of purification. Here is a verse: The basis of arising, illusion, etc., is taught, Non-existence is taught based on signs, Based on the four purifications, Perfect accomplishment is taught. That purification is self-nature and, stainless

The view, path, and goal, all pure Dharmas, are summarized in four ways. Why is the other-dependent nature shown to be like illusion and so forth as mentioned before? It is to dispel the doubts that others have about the other-dependent nature being mistaken. How do others come to have doubts about the other-dependent nature being mistaken? It is because to dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can something meaningless become an object of experience, it is said to be like an illusion. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can meaningless things that arise from the mind and mental factors arise, it is said to be like a mirage. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can something meaningless become the cause of liking and disliking, it is said to be like a dream. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can the desired and undesired results of good and bad deeds manifest, it is said to be like an image. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can various different consciousnesses arise from something meaningless, it is said to be like an eye disease. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can various different verbal expressions arise from something meaningless, it is said to be like an echo. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how can something meaningless become the object of samadhi that truly grasps reality, it is said to be like the moon in water. To dispel the doubts in the minds of those who think, how do Bodhisattvas consciously take rebirth in order to accomplish the deeds of sentient beings, it is shown to be like an emanation. From what consideration did the Bhagavan, after Brahma asked, show that the Tathagata does not observe samsara, nor does he observe nirvana? Because the other-dependent nature is the nature of the completely imputed and the thoroughly established, and there is no difference between samsara and nirvana itself, it is from this consideration that it is shown. Thus, the other-dependent nature itself, the Dharma of the completely imputed is samsara, and the Dharma of the thoroughly established is nirvana. The Dharma Treasury Sutra says there are three kinds of Dharma, namely all afflictions and complete purification and
