It is said that illusion, mirage, and dizziness can be understood as examples. If, like dreams, even when awake, everything is exhausted as mere consciousness, for example, if the thought of mere consciousness arises in a dream, why does it not arise here as well? Because only those who know this will experience it when awake. For example, just as it does not occur to those who dream and are not awake, but occurs to those who are awake. Only those who know this will experience it when awake, but not when not awake. If one is not awake, how can one infer mere consciousness? It should be inferred by scripture and reason. Among them, scripture is what the Blessed One said in the Tenth Ground Sutra: "These three realms are only mind." And in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, as when the Bodhisattva Maitreya asked and the Blessed One replied: "Blessed One, what do you think of the image seen in the state of samadhi, is it different from the mind or not different?" The Blessed One replied: "Maitreya, it should be said that it is not different. Why? Because I have said that consciousness is distinguished by the object being mere consciousness." Blessed One, if the image seen in the state of samadhi is not different from the mind, then how does the mind grasp the mind itself? Maitreya, no dharma grasps any dharma, but the mind that arises in this way appears in this way. For example, caused by form, even though one sees the form itself, one thinks one sees an image, therefore, the appearance of that form and the image appear to be different in meaning. Similarly, the mind that arises in this way also appears to be different from it in meaning." This is scripture, and it also shows reason. Thus, when the mind is placed in equanimity, whatever knowable images are seen, such as transformations, what is seen is the mind, and transformations have no other meaning. With this reason, Bodhisattvas should infer all consciousness as mere consciousness. Transformations, etc.

Moreover, recollection consciousness is also not permissible, because if the object is placed in front, it will appear. The recollection consciousness that arises from hearing and thinking is also because the object is a past thing. What appears there is only consciousness. Through this inference, even if the Bodhisattva is not awakened by knowing that (object) itself, it should only be inferred as consciousness. Those that show various kinds of consciousness like dreams, if eye consciousness and other consciousnesses can be considered as mere consciousness, then how are colored consciousnesses such as eyes regarded as mere consciousness? They should also be observed through scripture and reasoning, just like before. If those are also mere consciousness, then why do they appear as form and continuously show similarities? Because that is the basis of afflictions such as inversion. Otherwise, meaningless things will not be inverted into meaningful things, if that were the case, afflictions and the afflictions of the obscuration of knowledge would disappear. If that were the case, complete purification would also disappear, therefore, these things should not happen that way. Here is a verse: The cause of delusion and delusion are considered to be the consciousness of form. If there is no consciousness, there is no form and no other. Why do the consciousness of the body and the one with a body, and the eater, and the consciousness used by him, and the consciousness related to this, appear and gather simultaneously in all bodies? Because birth and related use are fully manifested. Why do various kinds of time consciousness and so on, as mentioned above, arise? Because the continuity of beginningless samsara does not cease, the realm of sentient beings is immeasurable, the realm of the world is immeasurable, the names of mutually accomplishing actions are immeasurable, the differences of complete acceptance and related use are immeasurable, and the differences of the ripening of the fruits of karma, related to what is desired and undesired, are immeasurable.
