I am the translator. To explain simultaneous and non-simultaneous occurrences, it is said: In the countless and immeasurable realms of the ten directions, etc., the many simultaneous occurrences are what is called "simultaneous occurrence." In one realm, two occurring simultaneously is impossible; rather, they occur sequentially. To show that many occurring simultaneously does not contradict reason, it is said: Why is that? etc. Those who have made aspirations together and those who have practiced together will simultaneously appear in different realms, which is reasonable and without any contradiction. Previously, they had each chosen a Buddha-field and made aspirations, so in one Buddha-field, two Buddhas will not appear simultaneously, let alone many Buddhas. O complete Sangha! It is not that they will appear sequentially, nor that they will never appear, so it must be understood that they will definitely appear in different realms. If Buddhas appear simultaneously, why do they not appear simultaneously in one Buddha-field? To refute this statement by others, it is said: Why is that? etc. In one field, two do not appear simultaneously, because of the power of past aspirations, because there is no need, and because those to be tamed will not practice with reverence. To explain this, it is said, "If I can guide the world without a guide," etc. Those who have made the aspiration to "become a guide in a world without a guide and ultimately be liberated from suffering," their aspirations will be truly fulfilled, and they will accumulate great merit, so they will not appear simultaneously. Because in one Buddha-field, one Buddha will do all things. The appearance of Buddhas is for the benefit of the world.

Therefore, since it is said that there is no need for a second to appear, two will not appear at the same time. If many Buddhas were to appear, those to be tamed would not cultivate with great reverence in order to accomplish their own benefit, nor would they make diligent effort quickly. Even if one were to pass into nirvana, they would think that others are still dwelling, and thus they would rely on another time. Conversely, if one knows that there is only one Buddha in all the world, one will think, 'Should I go to other places to travel? If he passes into nirvana, we will become helpless.' Thus, one will quickly engage in practice, listen to the Dharma, abide in pure conduct with strong faith, and strive with one taste. In this way, the appearance of one benefits and accomplishes the affairs of many sentient beings. It can also be said that all Buddhas are equal and unequal. Know that equality refers to the Sangha, the Dharmakaya, and all actions that benefit beings. Inequality is shown in four ways: by the difference in time, know that some Buddhas dwell for a long time and some dwell for a short time, this is the difference in lifespan. All Buddhas have different names, therefore the names are different. The castes of Brahmins and kings are different, and the size of the body is also different, some are very small and some are very large. Even if one is a human, only those with male characteristics can become Buddhas, to show that women cannot become Buddhas. Regarding the statement that 'women can also become Buddhas,' women cannot become Buddhas because the body as a basis is inferior, and women do not have a body as a basis that possesses complete qualities, because Bodhisattvas have long abandoned the female body. The mind is also inferior, because afflictions are strong, and diligence, reliance, and wisdom are inferior. To show that with such an inferior mind, and with instability, lack of diligence, and inferior wisdom, it is impossible to achieve such perfection. Because of the nature of having many afflictions, etc., one cannot become a Buddha, know this, etc. Thus it is proclaimed.
