The difference is that Bodhisattvas enter for the benefit of themselves and others, considering the affairs of others as their own needs, while Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not consider the affairs of others as their own needs in that way. They maintain equanimity towards all sentient beings, and because of this equanimity, they constantly enter for the sake of benefiting them, without expecting any return of benefit. Thus, they strive, constantly wishing them benefit and happiness. Having such thoughts of benefit and happiness, they connect them with the Dharma that bears fruit, and in this way, they achieve the distinction of merits that are superior to the superior. Among these distinctions of the merits of benefit, Bodhisattvas receive prophecies from the Buddhas, while Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not. Having received the prophecy, they abide on the irreversible ground. Abiding on this ground, they attain the Dharma nature of not forgetting what must be done and what must always be done. Having thus attained the Dharma nature of not forgetting, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas place them as the most supreme among all sentient beings. They do not completely abandon all that should be done, nor do they completely abandon due to the abandonment of what has not been attained. If they do not completely abandon, then they constantly arise with virtuous Dharmas without interruption, and when they arise like the waxing moon, they become true Bodhisattvas, not like Bodhisattvas who are artificial. Having become true Bodhisattvas, they know all the methods of taming in every way. Having known, they become skilled in all the distinctions of from where to seek completely, what to seek completely, and by what to seek completely. They also establish by what the complete seeking will reach its ultimate end. If they are skilled in establishing distinctions, they become skilled in oral instructions. If they are skilled in oral instructions, they will obtain the king of Samadhi with limitless objects. Having obtained that Samadhi, they will be able to teach the Dharma that has fruit. They teach in various ways and make it bear fruit. They will also definitely emerge from the Mahayana. If they definitely emerge from the Mahayana, then...

It will also become a great collection. The Great Vehicle will surely obtain that and that name in that and that stage. All the worlds, as well as the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, will also name and praise the names that are common to all Bodhisattvas. These should be understood as the distinctions of the merits of benefits. Those with such names are the signs of Bodhisattvas. By which signs, if one possesses those signs, then that practitioner, whether on the side of the householder or the side of the renunciant, will practice in all ways. If one practices on both sides, then the one who makes practice the essence will surely become more superior in the aspect of virtue with a special intention. With such an intention, for as long as it lasts, whether fully embracing the householder or fully embracing the renunciant, one will integrate the aspect of virtue into it. From then on, wherever one goes, one will associate with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and for the benefit of sentient beings, one will consciously take birth in samsara. The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will constantly and continuously show near instruction through teachings, so that one will experience the stage of obtaining the distinction of the aspect of virtue. By fully accepting the benefits of that experience, one enters the stage of obtaining distinction in the form of a householder. If the mind abides in that stage, then from higher to higher, until the ultimate arrival, one will become dull in all ways in the stages of distinction and will not know satisfaction. If one is so dull, then one will obtain the ultimate state, and from then on, one will no longer seek widely, because one has obtained the unsurpassed state. The order of the Bodhisattva ground is complete. From the main text of the Yoga Practice Ground, the extensive commentary on the Bodhisattva Ground, authored by the teacher Ocean Cloud, is complete. By the command of the divine monk Bodhi Light (c. 1042-1105), translated from the five mouths of the great scholar Shantibhadra of Nepal, and by the translator, the monk Vinaya King. Explanation of the Bodhisattva Ground from the Yoga Practice Ground. Ocean Cloud.
