A commentary on the Bodhisattva-bhūmi from the Yoga-caryā-bhūmi, Ocean Cloud. A commentary on the Bodhisattva-bhūmi from the Yoga-caryā-bhūmi. Ocean Cloud. In Sanskrit: Yogācāryabhūmisye bodhisattvabhūmivyākhyā. In Tibetan: A commentary on the Bodhisattva-bhūmi from the Yoga-caryā-bhūmi. Homage to the noble Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Homage to the noble Maitreya! First, in order to establish the nature of the treatise, it is stated, "These ten dharmas," and so forth. The Bodhisattva path is associated with the practice of the Bodhisattva. The fruit is two abandonments and two wisdoms, namely, abandoning the afflictive obscurations and abandoning the obscurations to knowledge, as well as completely pure wisdom and unobstructed wisdom. Buddhahood is the one hundred and forty-four unmixed qualities of the Buddha. These two themselves are also called the Mahāyāna, because one goes from here, or these are the means of going, the path, or the goer, hence it is called Yāna. Since the great is also it and the path is also it, it is the Mahāyāna. Again, the Mahāyāna is so because it possesses seven great qualities. The great Dharma is associated with teaching the immeasurable Sutras and so forth, such as the Hundred Thousand Verses. The great generation of the mind is generating the mind in unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, abiding at the ultimate end of obtaining and abandoning all qualities and faults. The great aspiration is to have faith in the profound and vast dharmas. The great intention is to obtain, on the pure ground of superior intention, the intention of equality with oneself for all sentient beings. The great accumulation is that the Bodhisattvas who have entered the ground generate immeasurable accumulations of merit and wisdom in each and every instant. The great time is to practice continuously for countless incalculable eons. The great fruit is to obtain the great self of Buddhahood, which is not shared by all sentient beings.

Those Bodhisattva grounds, in brief, have two situations: the situation of cause and the situation of effect. Among them, the basis and so on, the cause, according to the situation, are the situations of cause and effect. The last is summarized only by the situation of effect. Furthermore, all the Bodhisattva grounds should be understood as summarized by three states: the state of the basic yoga, the state of the yoga that conforms to the basis, and the state of the ultimate yoga of the basis. The state of the basic yoga is summarized by eighteen chapters. The second is summarized by four chapters. The third is the nature of five chapters. It should also be understood as summarized by three states: the difference of cause, the difference of effect, and the difference of the situation of the two. The first, last, and middle are according to the situation. Among them, the order of the basis and so on is like this: from the very beginning, when learning the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, the collection of its three causes is the basis, therefore, by approaching and entering, the basis is shown. After that, when entering the basis of the characteristics corresponding to the Bodhisattva's conduct, signs common to the Shramanas will appear, that is, with what signs will one truly obtain the name of Bodhisattva, that is, loving-kindness, pleasant speech, stability, extending a hand, and definitely explaining the intention of profound meaning. Furthermore, these signs are to combine the end of good deeds and so on with the Dharma of direction, that is, to enter the side of the householder or the side of the renunciate. Therefore, the direction is shown afterwards. Furthermore, in order to show that these signs only appear in those who have entered those beings through those directions and have completely purified their higher intention, and not in others, therefore, the higher intention is shown afterwards. For those who have entered the basis of enlightenment as described above, when the signs as described above are seen, and when they are completely in accordance with the combination of the Bodhisattva's direction, the higher of the Bodhisattva as described above

In short, to tame the minds of Bodhisattvas, Bodhisattvas have twelve abodes, and the thirteenth is abiding in the abode of the Tathagata. In order to show the state after abiding in this, the abodes are shown next. In order to show that Bodhisattvas who abide in these abodes and enter all abodes, accept five kinds of emanations in order to benefit and bring happiness to all faultless beings, the emanations are shown next. Similarly, in order to show the conduct of Bodhisattvas who belong to all abodes, six kinds of Bodhisattvas correctly take hold of beings, the complete taking hold is shown next. In order to explain that the thirteen abodes mentioned above will become seven grounds, the grounds are shown next. Starting from the ground of faith practice, all the grounds of Bodhisattvas have four kinds of Bodhisattva conduct, so the conduct is shown next. Those who possess such conduct, starting from the abode of the Tathagata and belonging to the ultimate end of the Tathagata's ground, showing one hundred and forty unshared Buddha Dharmas is the well-abiding, because it has the combination of appearance and language. Because the Buddha dwells well in this, it is called well-abiding. Because it can hold, it is the basis, meaning it can realize. Initially, in the middle, and finally, Bodhisattvas attain Bodhi and the Dharmas that accord with it, know that they are the three Dharmas such as lineage. In short, the classification of the basis can be understood as five types: showing the classification of nature, showing its meaning, showing the fundamental basis itself, showing the nearby basis, and showing the names. Among them, in terms of the classification of nature, the Bodhisattva's own lineage, the initial generation of mind, and all the Dharmas of the aspects of Bodhi are called the basis. The initial basis is lineage, the middle is the generation of mind, and after that are the Dharmas of the aspects of Bodhi. Or, small, medium
