What is superior and what is not? Knowing that is spoken of by virtue of entering. By the power of knowing various paths, beings are led to happy migrations, and to the path of nirvana, they are well established, and they practice correctly, as it is said, as appropriate. Knowing that all defilements are exhausted, or causing defilements to be exhausted, is knowing the exhaustion of defilements. Being free from the pride of exhaustion, or being free from the knowledge associated with the pride of what should be exhausted, is knowing the exhaustion of defilements. For the sake of showing this, it is spoken of by virtue of the Thus-Gone One. Have I or others attained it? Bodhisattvas know the exhaustion of others. Therefore, it is not shown manifestly in the following. Knowing the path and the non-path is also knowing the exhaustion, for the sake of showing this, the means of attainment, etc. Bodhisattvas know well and truly the exhaustion of defilements in the continuum of others, but they do not make it manifest themselves, because they do not abandon samsara, and because the afflictions are also beneficial for enlightenment. Therefore, it is said: Your afflictions have become the cause of enlightenment. For the sake of showing that samsara is not abandoned. Things with defilements, etc. Neither the defiled nor the undefiled are abandoned. In that, one engages in the defiled, and causes it to increase completely, and is truly associated with it, not because of the undefiled of abiding. In that, even if one engages completely, one is not harmed by the suffering of samsara, and even if one has not abandoned afflictions, one is not harmed by afflictions, what is shown in this way is non-abiding nirvana, so it is thought. Among all powers, it is the most powerful, because it is inconceivable. Even if one knows the exhaustion of defilements as it is, one does not make it manifest, and one does not turn into all afflictions in samsara, such a thing is very difficult to understand. The power of the Dharma is the perfections such as giving.
