Beginning with "from these three causes," etc. Among these, the fruit of merit is the fruit of maturation itself, and it should be understood that the benefit of sentient beings who rely on it should be done. The fruit of wisdom should be understood as the fruit that is in accordance with the cause of wisdom. The so-called "without harm" means without subsequent discord, meaning without the harm of suffering. Therefore, it is said, "without being severely tormented by suffering," etc. Because of possessing the three perfections gathered by merit, there is the enjoyment of maturation, one's own possessions, and the complete retinue, liberated from the suffering of the decline of enjoyment, the suffering of the decline of one's own possessions, and the harm of the suffering of the lack of retinue, in samsara, relying on the great enjoyment of samsara, one will be able to benefit sentient beings. Relying on the maturation of one's own possessions, one will be able to benefit sentient beings through the other three gathered possessions. Thus, relying on the self and other continuums, there are two kinds of fruits of merit. Relying on wisdom, one will be able to do non-inverted and vast merit, and one will become close, etc., because it is reasonable to be the precursor of all virtuous dharmas. Through wisdom, because of being accustomed to the yoga that thoroughly distinguishes all aspects of knowable things, it should be understood that through the particularly excellent wisdom in the continuum, one will be able to realize the fruit of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Thus, the two kinds of merit and the two kinds of wisdom become four kinds. The divisions of what is included are immeasurable. Because maturation, its cause, and its fruit, merit and wisdom become the main factors, in order to show that unsurpassed perfect enlightenment will be achieved, it is said, "Among these, what is the cause of maturation," etc. Therefore, these should also be placed in the accumulation. The so-called "relying on merit and arising from merit" itself,

Yes, for the time being, maturation itself arises from merit, so it depends on merit. The eight causes of maturation, such as having no harmful intent, also depend on the power of previous habituation in doing good deeds, so they depend on merit. The fruits of maturation, such as accumulating virtue for a long time, also arise from the power of previous habituation in merit, through the force of their similar causes, so they also depend on merit. Thus, for the time being, merit is the main thing. Merit also depends on wisdom, and it is by relying on wisdom that merit is perfected, as the saying goes. Therefore, among the nine dharmas, such as maturation, these two alone are the main agents: perfecting merit and wisdom, which are the basis for attaining unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Among these, to show that wisdom is the main thing, because merit is also its cause. What is called reason is a faultless action. Accomplishing enjoyment through the place of action that includes punishment will become harmful. One should enjoy moderately, because enjoying immoderately is a cause of impropriety and a source of diseases, so it will become harmful. Thus, for the time being, the meaning of the visible dharma, which is the experience of the individual ripening of the results of ownership, has been shown. Now, in order to show the individual experience of the fruits of maturation, the maturation of previous actions that will become maturation means that which arises from maturation. In order to abide in happiness in the visible dharma, having cultivated meditation, being skilled in transforming meditation into the visible dharma through the yoga of meditation, it is for the sake of realizing happiness in this very life, and not for the sake of future lives, because meditation transforms. That yoga of meditation is not practiced for the sake of others; if it were practiced for the sake of others, it would become the next life. The Tathagata has attained the ultimate.
