Because there is nothing to compare, it is inconsistent. To show that the less one strives for the benefit of others, the less one can perfectly accomplish the benefit of others. Therefore, because he cannot accomplish the benefit of others, etc., the meaning of "therefore" is. To show that if one is incapable, one cannot become a great matter for accomplishing the benefit of others, so "one cannot be timely, one cannot be competent," etc. Even so, one cannot perfectly accomplish the benefit of others, so to show that if the limbs of both are assembled, the benefit of both can be achieved. If that is the case, that Bodhisattva, etc. One's own ability also becomes sufficient to be competent, and sentient beings can also listen as instructed. Having the ability, one can perfectly mature all the Buddhadharma, and sentient beings listening as instructed can quickly mature perfectly in the three vehicles. The Buddhas' dharma quickly matures perfectly, and one can manifest unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment and become a Buddha. Sentient beings mature perfectly, and one can obtain liberation. Therefore, through these methods, with eight kinds of ripening fruits, one truly accomplishes benefit and happiness for sentient beings. Therefore, when sentient beings wander in the cycle of the five paths, if they meet with Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, they can obtain benefit, they can meet with happiness. Therefore, samsara becomes meaningful, purposeful. If separated from this, it becomes meaningless, aimless. By proclaiming merit and wisdom, one can also proclaim the fruits of merit and wisdom. Therefore, it is said what is merit and what is wisdom. The so-called three perfections are spoken from the aspect of establishing the essence. The essence of the three perfections is called merit, that is, the thing itself and the fruit itself. The thing itself is the thing of merit.

This is to explain these three, the perfection of generosity is the merit arising from generosity. The perfection of discipline is that arising from discipline. The perfection of patience is the merit arising from meditation. Patience is also of two kinds, truly grasped by the power of individual examination, and grasped by the power of meditation. That grasped by the power of meditation is the very nature of meditating on loving-kindness, because by abandoning harmful thoughts, patience becomes complete, so abandoning harmful thoughts is meditating on loving-kindness. Like this, for the time being, it is the thing itself. The fruit itself is the enjoyment of one's own continuum, as well as one's own things and the fruit of one's retinue. Wisdom and prajna have the same meaning, therefore the nature of the perfection of prajna is wisdom. Because of thorough knowledge, it is prajna, that is, truly determining and realizing as it is. Wisdom is either becoming the antidote to doubt, or is the nature of true determination. In order to explain the classifications of these that are in accordance with merit and wisdom, it is said, "the perfection of diligence" and so on. Or, the collections of bodhisattvas are of two kinds, the collection of merit and the collection of wisdom. Therefore, these six perfections are established as the collection of enlightenment. If it is said that three perfections become the collection of merit, and one is established as the collection of wisdom, then to which category will the other two perfections belong? The answer is, "the perfection of diligence" and so on. Moreover, diligence is the great ground of virtue, because if there is no diligence, virtue will not arise, and rejoicing in virtue is diligence, this is to explain this point. Or, because diligence is the antidote to all the non-concordant aspects of the perfections, diligence will follow the five perfections. Also following the view of the sutras, these classifications
