Adverse lands cause the aspiration for the Great Vehicle to regress. The term "fear" means that in all things, due to applying things in a reversed manner, one will certainly grasp onto wrong views. Wavering means that bad intelligence will arise, thus leading to doubt. Since the distinction of intention is not attained, the practice of universal conduct with great compassion will also be abandoned. Even if one engages in activities for the benefit of others, the effort will be close to accomplishment only in small ways. Because of a small intention, one will not fully complete the training characterized as described, and similarly, there will be no signs, directional efforts, or superior intention. Therefore, one will be far from perfect and complete enlightenment. To show that in some special cases, one may also universally cling to the view of self, it is said, "One will also hold oneself as distant," thus indicating that in samsara, it is the thought of samsara. To show that these aspects, etc., are shown as great, medium, and small due to the power of antidotes, it is said, "Abiding in small patience," etc. Among these, in the state of abiding in small patience, the aspects of the unfavorable side, etc., are great, while the favorable side is small. When one enters great patience, all of these will be completely abandoned. Therefore, to show that one enters the state of great joy, it is said, "One should understand that one enters by way of attainment," meaning that in the stage of faith-practice, contrary to what is taught here, to show that when abiding in great joy, all those obstacles will not arise, therefore, in all things, it is because it is the unfavorable side for attaining the abiding of great joy. To show the aspects, etc., of the abiding of great joy, which are the antidotal qualities of the qualities of the unfavorable side as described, it is said, "If one possesses these," etc. However, even in the stage of faith-practice, there is pure superior intention, so why is it not established there? Therefore, it is said, "Although there is," etc. Because it is defiled by all afflictions, that superior intention of the stage of faith-practice is not a pure intention.

It has been shown that this is not an arrangement. The Extremely Joyful Ground is not completely defiled by afflictions, because its intention is pure. The Ground of Faith Practice is complete. Speaking because of the special equality, what are the aspects, etc.? Abandoning previous aspirations, fully accepting unprecedented aspirations, in order to show entry into the Extremely Joyful Ground, this itself is the undefiled, ultimate bodhicitta. Showing the cause of abandoning previous aspirations is: becoming inferior in four ways. The great self-nature of complete and perfect enlightenment is not true, because it does not arise from seeing reality as it is. One does not understand well the means to become enlightened. Similarly, because one does not know the great self-nature of the means of the grounds and perfections, etc., one does not understand well the means to become enlightened. Because one goes by relying on trusting others, it is called going by relying on other conditions. Because one has not experienced it oneself, it is said to be uncertain, these are inferior. Therefore, it is said, "abandoning". The so-called other ground is the undefiled reality. From those six aspects, completely transcending all aspirations of the white side, it is incomparable, the fruit is not common, completely transcending all worldly realms, it is immutable, it is especially cultivated. In short, the aspects of the Extremely Joyful Ground have been shown as eight: very definite self-nature, four aspects of bodhicitta, true aspiration, the self-nature of manifest accomplishment by starting with diligence, completely purifying the place, knowing all places other than that, completely purifying the roots of virtue, the nature of birth and power. Among them, in terms of the very definite self-nature, the six aspects, etc., have been shown. Very definite is going by one's own power. Going by one's own power is because it arises from cultivation. Because it completely transcends all aspirations other than that.
