Are birth and the birth of birth different or the same? There is no third distinction. If they are the same, then it is not reasonable for them to be different in meaning, because they are bodies distinguished by one birth. If they are different, then it is not appropriate to apply the term "birth of form," because it is the nature of feeling, etc. Just as feeling, etc., which are other than form, are not one birth, so too, the nature of conditioned phenomena and birth should be established by this line of reasoning. Similarly, aging, etc., should also be applied accordingly. To show that if destruction is also different in meaning, faults will increase, it is said: If destruction in destruction, etc., is also different in meaning, then different birth and destruction will be obtained. If they have birth, then they will also cease, so their decay will also be obtained. To point out the fault if the other party admits the view that "all conditioned phenomena will cease," it is said: If that is the case, then with regard to "with little effort," etc. "With little effort" means that even without relying on the nine successive absorptions entered into gradually, all ordinary beings can obtain the cessation of mind and mental factors like the cessation absorption. Just as cessation absorption is distinguished by the cessation of mind and mental factors, so too is the birth of destruction. Just as mind and mental factors arise in the state of being separated from cessation absorption, so too, at the time when destruction ceases, it will lead to birth, which is to show that faults will increase, etc. Thus, after completely refuting the characteristics, in order to completely deny that conditioned phenomena exist at all times, it is said, "Son of good family," etc. If conditioned phenomena abide with inherent existence in the three times, then it will lead to permanence, so they will not be free from attachment and liberated. To show by the opposite, the opposite of this is possible.

The meaning of saying "thus" is that by seeing what is not firm and impermanent, one can be free from attachment and also attain liberation. Following the impermanence as previously shown, in order to show the differences in the aspects of suffering of the Bodhisattvas, it says "in such aspects" and so on. In the aggregates such as form, non-self is shown because there is no self in the person. Because the nature of form and so on is the characteristic of non-self, and because they have no other characteristic than this. "All things to be spoken of" refers to the realm of words to be spoken. "The nature of speaking" refers to what is to be spoken. Thus, what is devoid of the dharmas that have been examined is what is shown as the absence of self in phenomena. "The previous cause has been completely cut off" means that whoever has the previous cause completely cut off is the one whose previous cause has been completely cut off. Their causes are also of two kinds: the cause of generating afflictions and the cause of generating birth. Among them, the cause of generating afflictions being completely cut off refers to the nirvana with remainder, where afflictions are completely abandoned without remainder. The cause of generating birth being completely cut off refers to the nirvana without remainder, where the remainder of the aggregates is abandoned without remainder. Thus, there are two kinds. Among them, the one with remainder is called the pacification of afflictions and near afflictions. The other should be understood as peace because of the pacification of suffering. Thus, it is said to be the nature of peace because of the pacification of suffering such as birth together with its cause. "Impure higher intention" means acting with aspiration. "Those who have not seen the truth" means those who have not realized the truth and are not certain, that is, ordinary beings of the Hearers. Following what is heard from others, they become devoted to nirvana, saying with words that nirvana is peace. Thus, they are devoted to a non-real nirvana, that is, they have not attained the wisdom of individual self-realization by focusing on nirvana. Therefore, it is said, however, that

Etc. Among these, with the conceptualization of nirvana, completely abandon the unreal aspects, saying, "Neither real nor unreal." Right mindfulness exists, which is in accordance with purification, because it possesses right mindfulness. Therefore, the verses from the Mahayana sutras say: "Unreal thought is also unreal, unreal not not-thought, not-thought not not-thought is not, all knowable things are said to be." This is what is to be explained. Neither real nor unreal is in accordance with purification, the conceptualization arising from the cause taught by the Tathagata. Non-thought is suchness, and its wisdom. Non-thought not not-thought is the worldly knowledge obtained after non-thought. To thoroughly accomplish that meaning, the example given is like this: the king's son, etc. Mentioning the king and the householder's son is because they possess sovereignty and wealth, and are able to not leave home. Having heard the praise of the real deer, they will think that those are the praises of the previous deer, and therefore they will become interested in them, because they have not seen the real deer before. Having seen those that did not exist before, they will develop a false understanding of their own interest, thinking that they have become interested in something that is not its own nature, and the previous interest will make them feel ashamed. When the assembly is completely mature and growing, it refers to the time when the Bodhisattvas thoroughly realize the ground. For the Shravakas, it refers to the time when they see the truth. Manifest knowledge arises, referring to both, seeing the two selflessnesses. If a Bodhisattva is childish, or the Shravakas think, "This is nirvana," and are only interested in that, abandoning a little, because of connecting abandonment, in order to obtain the antidote to be abandoned, they will not enter into the distinctions shown from higher to higher, therefore they will not be liberated from all suffering.
