It should be understood as "pure." Among them, incense and the like are offerings, and Dharma robes and the like are services. Completely upholding the true Dharma, protecting the true Dharma, and making aspirations such as proper attention, the distinction of the meaning of these aspirations will be explained later. Samadhi such as emptiness has two aspects: common and uncommon. Among them, in terms of the uncommon, if someone asks, what is the samadhi of emptiness? For all phenomena that are completely conceived by children, there is no complete and truthful subsequent view, and the mind abides in this, this is the samadhi of emptiness, because emptiness itself has the most supreme aspect. The so-called "afflictions and sufferings arising from wrong discrimination" refers to the constant arising of afflictions such as greed for the distinction between the grasper and the grasped. Because of this as a cause, the suffering of reincarnation arises. Therefore, it is said: "Having truly seen the accumulation of faults of many faults," because it is a sudden affliction and karma, and the affliction of birth itself, distinguishing and establishing the completely conceived and dependent nature, seeing the fault of sentient beings giving rise to suffering, not desiring this, and the mind abiding prior to this, this is the desireless samadhi. The so-called "eliminating all the characteristics of discrimination and proliferation by abandoning the distinction of knowing the nature of unspeakable things, is the signless," refers to the mind abiding by contemplating peace and happiness, this is the signless samadhi. Why are only three samadhis taught? In order to show its classification, it is said: "There is nothing higher than this, and there is nothing more supreme than this," and so on. All knowable things are divided into two types: existence and non-existence, that is, the aspect of existence and the aspect of non-existence. Therefore, it is said: "These two are," and so on. For existence, also truly knowing existence as it is.

Therefore, following the sutra "Thoroughly Knowing the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment," it is necessary to explain the three samadhis. Among them, there are two kinds of existence: those with defects and those with virtues. And the non-existent refers to things like the self. Among them, the conditioned things with defects, because they are undesirable, should not be desired, therefore they are called the desireless samadhi. The unconditioned things with virtues, namely Nirvana, because they are seen as the aspect of peace, are desired, and combined with the attachment of manifest joy, this is the signless samadhi. For non-existent things, neither desiring nor not desiring, because only seeing its nature, it is the emptiness samadhi. Therefore, it is said in the sutra: "The non-existent has faults, Or things have virtues, Completely clinging to the virtuous, And clinging to the non-virtuous is its antidote." Thus, it explains the establishment of emptiness samadhi and so on. The so-called "other aspects" refer to entering the way of establishing the three samadhis common to the Shravakas, and entering the way of practicing as it is thoroughly known. Among them, the way of establishing refers to, from the perspective of the selflessness of the person, for the conditioned dharmas such as form, the samadhi of the aspect of selflessness is the emptiness samadhi. The samadhi of the aspects of impermanence, suffering, cause, condition, arising, and accumulation is the desireless samadhi that counteracts the truths of suffering and origin. Some people establish it as ten aspects, because they are to be discarded like the aspect of the road and the metaphor of the raft, so those aspects are also called the aspects of desirelessness. The four aspects of the peace of cessation, etc., are the signless samadhi. Similarly, through the combination of the way of practice, one should enter the way of practice. The Tathagata summarized all dharmas into four dharma seals and established them. "All conditioned things are impermanent," this is to counteract the clinging to permanence.
