That evil ground also falls into wrong views and becomes perverted. To show that the virtuous friend who is the opposite of this is one who is exceedingly wise and whose wisdom is clear, it is said, "Not foolish," and so forth. The four terms, "not foolish," "not dull-witted," "wise," and "intelligent," should be understood as the opposite of childish, ignorant, unclear, and unwise. Because one is not childish, one is not ignorant, because one is fully endowed with innate wisdom that is in accordance with engaging in all fields of knowledge. Not ignorant means one is of a learned lineage, one who possesses wisdom arising from learning. Wise means clear, one who possesses wisdom arising from contemplation. Intelligent means one who is reasonable in all things. Of these, the evil friend mentioned earlier is extremely evil. Because the limb of the opposing side is the principal one. It should be understood that the excellent spiritual friend is established in two ways. As explained, the first excellence is fully clarified by the characteristic of wisdom, by knowing the means of accomplishing benefit and happiness. There are also three kinds of non-places that do not connect to non-places: dwelling in the unpredicted, dwelling in the non-virtuous, and dwelling in the inferior virtuous. In this regard, speaking with regard to connecting to the first non-place, it says, "Also, one does not cause it to enter into carelessness," and so forth. Among these, the activity of carelessness is simply not cultivating virtuous dharmas. The place of carelessness is the object of the place of activity. Likewise, misconduct and its place should also be understood. In this regard, the fourth sutra makes two kinds of evil friends, so the perfections here should be understood as two kinds: whoever one relies on, even if there is fault, or even if there is no fault, only the happiness of this world will arise. In this regard, the first and second spiritual friends are made into one, and the opposite of that should be understood as the fourth perfection. To place the most excellent and to place the most inferior is, in short, the Mahayana.

Dependence and dependence on things. Among them, the Mahayana is the entry into the most excellent, while the Hearer and Solitary Realizer vehicles are the most inferior. Among them, faith is the means of obtaining what is to be obtained, and that very means is faith. Again, it is of three aspects: the aspect of believing in existence itself, the aspect of desiring what is not manifest as being capable of accomplishment, and the aspect of being utterly delighted with possessing qualities. It is said that desire will arise in one who possesses faith, and after that, desire for virtuous Dharma is shown. Having generated desire, in order to obtain it, one makes aspirations in the mind and generates manifest activities, therefore, after that is the correct acceptance. Having thus generated the mind and made prayers, in order to perfect the accumulations, one will engage in effort, and after that, diligence is initiated. If that diligence is well grasped by skillful means and practiced properly, the desired result will be accomplished, and after that, skillful means are shown. These are qualities, because they are on the side of the antidotes to faults. Among them, in terms of the vehicle, in order to show the state of being most excellent and most inferior, such as this. Things are also of two kinds: the thing of wisdom and the thing of merit. In terms of the thing of wisdom, in relation to what arises from meditation and so on, it is established as most excellent and not excellent. In terms of the activities of a monk, there are excellent, middling, and inferior. Among them, the main activity of a monk is engagement in meditation and practice. The middling is engagement in activities other than meditation, which include reading, listening, and thinking. If neither of these can be fully engaged in, in order to make the enjoyment of what is given by faith fruitful, permission is given to engage in the work of a server. That is also of two kinds: one who distributes food for the Sangha, serving as a distributor for turns and so on, and one who reveres the lama and serves him, acting as a servant by attending to the lama's needs.
