That which is called "the root of virtue" means the very essence of virtue. Because all those who desire the benefit and happiness of themselves and others should desire it, it is said thus. In order to explain the meaning of "self-accomplishment," it is said, "self and true display," and so on. The so-called "meaning agreement" is the same as the meaning agreement with others, the meaning is the same, and the accomplishment is the same. The so-called necessity is of two kinds: one is to make others respect the good roots that have been correctly accepted; the other is to make one's own words worthy of being heard and to avoid the opportunity for slander. In order to show the first necessity, it is said, "Those who tame" and so on, the so-called "stable and definite" means that after respectfully practicing, they will not retreat. Therefore, it is said, "No turning back." In order to show the cause of stable and definite practice, (one should think) that this Bodhisattva only shows us what he himself also firmly and definitely practices, so he must be showing us the benefit and happiness. This person also does beneficial and happy things as he wishes, and does not do useless and unhappy things. After thinking like this, he will try to cultivate according to this. In order to explain the second necessity, it is said, "Should not say that it needs to be corrected," and so on. In order to show that not all Bodhisattvas are completely in agreement, but there are differences. It shows that it has four sentences, three of which belong to the white side, and the fourth belongs to the black side. This sentence should be abandoned, because it has completely deviated from the Dharma nature of the Bodhisattva. One's own good qualities, even if enjoyed with others, mainly reside in a hidden way, and show inferiority, so there will be no fault, this is the first sentence. Bodhisattvas are mutually equal in two ways, that is, dwelling on the ground of equality, and purifying various lands. The equality of merit is the perfection of generosity and so on, and the practice of good Dharma.
