Both the ground and those that walk should be placed in the very conduct itself. The mind that arouses all such as walking is called conduct because it drives, because it drives and plants the aggregates and makes them go to other places. Its path is the activity of walking and so forth, entering into it through walking and so forth. When one purifies the obscurations of the mind for a long time day and night, abiding in one conduct causes suffering. Therefore, to regard it with equanimity and not to take means to eliminate it, but to fully engage in the virtuous side is called accepting suffering that has arisen. In order to show that one does not take means to eliminate it, such as using a bed at an inappropriate time and so forth. A bed or small bed refers to belonging to a temple. Spreading grass or spreading leaves refers to belonging to a monastery. Completely upholding the Dharma is established in seven ways: ordination has inferior, middling, and superior. In terms of a bhikshu, the inferior is serving. This also has two aspects. Why is it said? Because one should make offerings to the Three Jewels and perform service, etc. According to what is appropriate, from offering to the Buddha with the body and so forth, up to offering to the Sangha. Offering to the guru refers to reverently attending upon the teacher and preceptor. Upholding the sutras and so forth taught by others refers to holding the dharmas. Showing the meaning of what is held and the treatises to others refers to extensively showing. Repeating those very things again and again with words refers to reciting. Following after hearing and measuring in solitude refers to contemplating. Making calm abiding and insight habitual refers to meditating. Fortunate ones, beggars should examine the twenty-two places of begging, and from that sutra, the first seven places were taken and taught in this way, because they are thoroughly distinguished by the places of suffering. I am unsightly in form because I have abandoned the signs of a householder, which means that even taking the aspect of unsightly form indicates abandoning the signs of a householder. The householder's

Because of abandoning the characteristics, the hair and beard, etc., are shaved off. "I will practice bad colors" is the second (ascetic practice). Wearing sewn clothes and wearing bad-colored clothes is wearing bad colors. Wearing reddish-yellow clothes is wearing bad-colored clothes. "I will practice other behaviors" is the third (ascetic practice), because for walking and so on, all worldly behaviors and places of behavior are cut off and one abides. "I will live by depending on others" is the fourth (ascetic practice), completely abandoning all activities, living near by what others give, maintaining life by what is obtained from others, and passing the time. Until the end of life, one should beg and live from others. Even if one obtains a lot at once, it is not allowed to accumulate and enjoy it. People's desires are sexual desires. Liberation from that is because one has truly taken up the Dharma of liberation. Seeing people's joy, play, dance, etc., one abandons them by truly taking up the vows of liberation from them. A good friend is one who causes one to abandon what is unhelpful and truly engages in what is helpful. A beloved one is one who does not abandon one even in times of poverty. A young friend is one who has been associated with for a long time since childhood. Laughter is the verbal action aroused by desire. Play is similarly the bodily action. Joy is similarly the universal action of the mind. Enjoying pleasure is the pleasure aroused by mutual afflictions. One should be liberated from such things, and such sufferings should be combined as appropriate. Bodily fatigue is the fatigue of the body due to exerting great effort. Mental confusion is due to forgetfulness and mental distraction. "It should be recognized as elevenfold" refers to these things that should be done. For renunciants, it is the action of taking up the implements for practicing the Dharma. For householders, it is the practice of correct actions. "It is only for entering into perfect complete enlightenment" means that one must definitely enter into the accumulation of Bodhi. This is a summary word. Diligence
