Because of being broken, there is no opportunity for taming, so there is no fault even if it is not given. Heretics are enemies of the doctrine, so they should be punished. The very act of mentioning virtues should be understood as praise. Having few desires is because one does not allow others to mention one's own virtues as well. If it is seen that due to talking about virtues, that person's arrogance and so on completely turn into afflictions, there is no fault. Expulsion is not permanent. The very occasion of being incurable is explained by things like being displeasing. The so-called abiding in time means observing the fears of abiding in other times and fighting. The so-called disturbance and division of the Sangha means that the Sangha becomes a bloody disturbance or directly divides, and that itself is unshakable, and mostly possesses shame and embarrassment, so it is stopped, and there is no fault in creating faults. Because the enjoyment given by faith by those who are against the doctrine will become faulty, it is said to make them abandon it. The so-called manifest attachment is proclaiming that it is done with mantras or medicine or illusion, but not with the power of magical powers. There is no fault in all situations, and there is even more no fault in being mentally disturbed and threatened by feelings, and being threatened by feelings means being overwhelmed by strong feelings. Not having taken vows means not having taken vows. The so-called completely actual occurrence refers to the three types of discipline, those that are actually shown there. The so-called scattered refers to those that are scattered. The so-called complete refers to showing them gathered together. The so-called thought of wanting to learn refers to the discipline of vows. The so-called thought of wanting enlightenment refers to the discipline of accumulating merit. The so-called thought of doing the benefit of sentient beings refers to the discipline of doing the benefit of sentient beings. The so-called summarizing as misdeeds means that the faults of Bodhisattvas are not different, because they violate the actions of Bodhisattvas, so they are only faults. The so-called whoever understands means that Bo-

The transgressions of Bodhisattvas are shown to be not without qualification. Abiding in the distinction of vows that transcends all Śrāvakas and the like, it is not the case that the practice of virtuous things becomes without qualification. Intermediate transgressions, such as those involving defeat, are shown to be confessed to the assembly or the Saṃgha, because the offense is heavy. 'First, state the object' means stating the order of confession, saying, 'Venerable one, I have committed a transgression of offense from such and such an object.' 'The remainder' means confessing those offenses that have occurred. The one receiving the confession should say, 'Do you see those offenses?' He should say, 'I see them.' 'Will you keep the vows from now on? I will keep them well.' This should be done up to three times. If there is no one to receive the confession, it is shown that offenses can be confessed through the means of blessing. Other rituals for taking vows are also shown by 'That which is the proper taking of the Bodhisattva vows,' and so forth. Attachment is shown here as attachment to sentient beings. Through love for sentient beings, whatever a Bodhisattva does, all of that is the activity of a Bodhisattva, because it pertains to the benefit of sentient beings. Even if done, it does not become a transgression; what does it become? It becomes a well-done deed. Therefore, what arises from attachment is not a transgression. A Bodhisattva hating sentient beings is not acting for the benefit of oneself and others. One's own Buddha-dharma will not fully mature, nor will sentient beings fully mature. Therefore, that is not the activity of Bodhisattvas. Doing what is not activity becomes a transgression of offense. Therefore, in the place of offenses arising from hatred, it is mostly said to be the mind of tormenting thought in all ways. 'Just as it arises from the collection of the basis' means the five causes, small and large, etc., as previously explained. In terms of discipline, the perfections and impairments of Śrāvakas are distinguished into four types. Discipline is perfect.
