Even if there is no liking in the heart, there are cases of accepting for the sake of considering others or competing with others, so these two situations must be prevented. In order to explain the difference between the precepts of the Hearers and the root offenses, and the difference in precepts, it is said that there are four dharmas like places of defeat. Hearers abide in desire, hatred, and ignorance, and with attachment to sexual desire, engage in the act of intercourse; with attachment to possessions, steal the wealth of others; kill beings while being bound by universal malice towards sentient beings; with the binding of ignorance, proclaim supramundane qualities that they do not possess, if these are taken as a basis, they will lose their qualifications like ease. Know that Bodhisattvas also have four other dharmas like places of defeat: Bodhisattvas lose their qualifications by universally enjoying gains and respect. Showing respect by "praising oneself" and so on. Just as Hearers lose their qualifications by defaming themselves and others with attachment to sexual desire, similarly, if Bodhisattvas crave gains and respect and defame themselves and others, they will fall. Therefore, this discipline is very profound and vast, and others should also be made aware of it. Hearers fall if they steal the wealth of others out of greed; while Bodhisattvas fall if they are stingy with possessions even though they have them, and do not give to impoverished beggars, or do not share the Dharma. Hearers fall if they kill a person, while Bodhisattvas fall if they generate a mind of universal malice towards all sentient beings, harm beings with their hands or feet, etc., and repeatedly inflict harm, even if they do not listen to confession and repentance with lashes. Hearers fall if they proclaim qualities they have not attained. Bodhisattvas fall if they conceal the qualities they have, slander the true Dharma, and proclaim non-Dharma. Being happy about this is for the sake of what one wants. Explaining to others in that way is why it is called explaining. Establishing is the door to practice.
