To eliminate unbearable suffering, one relies on and gives shelter. For those who suffer from the interruption of speech such as coming and going, light is given to eliminate that suffering. Thus, these become eight types due to the classification of the objects to be given. For the recipients, it will benefit this world and the next, so it is called the giving that brings happiness in this and the other world. Everything is also summarized into three, namely: material giving is well distinguished by giving things, because it is to make the body stable. Fearless giving is to protect from the place of decline, because it is to make life stable. Dharma giving is to combine the faultless with teaching, explaining, and near-speaking, because it is to make the mind stable. In order to briefly show that material giving can benefit, therefore "good", etc., is good because of the perfection of color, etc. Those are to show benefit through the five sense doors. It is pure because it is not mixed with impure things. It is suitable because it is faultless. These two are to show benefit through the mind door. To eliminate the stain of stinginess, it is shown to give excellent things. To eliminate the stain of accumulation, it is shown to give many things. These two ways are to show that the meaning of the manifest desire of begging is accomplished, and the hope in the heart is completely fulfilled, so benefit is applied through the mind door. These five kinds of giving are happiness for this, because they benefit appropriately through the six sense doors. The stain of stinginess is what the mind holds, which is contrary to giving. The stain of accumulation is the holding of enjoyment, which is contrary to enjoying oneself. Both of these belong to inferior sentient beings, not to others. Therefore, it is said in the sutra: The inferior world, with the fear of exhaustion, does not enjoy itself, nor does it give to others. Thus it is declared. Life is declining

To protect from fear, the giving of fearlessness is shown, which is "lion" and so on. There are three types of Dharma giving: truly showing all the Dharmas such as the Sutra Pitaka, without reversing the meaning and words; properly showing all the faultless deeds of the world; and causing to turn away from evil deeds and to properly uphold them. The giving of all Dharmas is the Dharma giving. There are also two types of Dharma: here it refers to the Dharma of teaching and the Dharma of good conduct. In terms of accomplishing these two for other sentient beings, it is called Dharma giving. In short, as mentioned before, the giving of wealth and so on that has been shown, is encompassed by the nine ways previously mentioned, and how it is appropriately and comfortably shown here and elsewhere. The so-called "with various distinctions" refers to showing the five distinctions of wealth giving. Fearless giving also has five types, summarized by completely protecting things like lions. Does Dharma giving have three types? It should be understood in detail by the distinctions previously shown. The explanation of the ten aspects of purity has been shown in the sutras, and here it is shown in brief. There are many situations that hinder giving, and knowing that leisure and endowment are difficult to obtain, quickly giving is unobstructed giving. The so-called "as a cause is like this" refers to how a Bodhisattva starts from giving and becomes happy, while the beggar does not become happy from obtaining. Through this way, it should be known to give very quickly. In short, non-attachment giving has two types: the nihilistic wrong view is attachment to thinking that giving has no result. Therefore it says: "Does this giving have no result?" Superimposition is also like that. This also has two types. Attaching to non-cause as cause is the view of adhering to precepts and asceticism, therefore it says: "Will harmful giving become Dharma?"
