Regarding "caused by poverty" and so on, due to the fault of past karma caused by stinginess, one becomes a hungry ghost, etc., or because of being born into a poor family, one becomes subject to others, thereby obtaining bondage, etc. The so-called "will experience" refers to such a rebirth. The so-called "without benefiting others" means without meaning. By benefiting others through the means of generosity, even if one is bound by the suffering of poverty, one should not refuse begging. One should observe separately, and even if there are other ways to make a living, why should one refuse beggars? This is to explain this point. Pleasant things are also the cause of completely changing suffering, and attachment to them is a perverted view of suffering as happiness. Perversion is the root of suffering, therefore it is said that this generates suffering in the future. The so-called "completely knowing perversion" refers to perversion itself. In order to show the result of generosity, namely "great enjoyment" and so on. The so-called "caused by observing the evil result" refers to the fault of the result caused by being overly attached to evil. Seeing the absence of essence with the three types of impermanence, and because of the impermanence of momentary arising and ceasing, therefore, whatever is said is of the nature of momentary destruction, that is, the so-called "having the nature of momentary destruction." The impermanence of constant destruction is what is said, "The fruits that are enjoyed are all exhausted and of the nature of destruction." The impermanence of destruction by separation is what is said, "Having the nature of destruction by separation." Realizing without familiarity, enduring suffering, fully knowing perversion, and seeing conditioned phenomena as without essence, this is to know the four antidotes to obstacles. The first three are the cause of entering into generosity, therefore it is said, "Giving alms correctly." The fourth is completely dedicated to great enlightenment, therefore it is said, "The fruit of true merit is complete."

It is called "Who Holds." "Gathering within" means showing that there is no distraction. "Mind is pure" means showing that it is not false. Thus, the Bodhisattva, with skillful means, completely grasps, and the universal discrimination of giving arises from the power of superior understanding. Even if it does not arise from action, it becomes the cause of obtaining immeasurable merit. This is what is to be shown. In order to briefly show the giving with wisdom as previously stated, therefore there is "Thus briefly," and so on. The opposite of the giving of superior intention is harmful thoughts and so on. "From here on" means that in all aspects of giving, difficult giving and so on should be established. It is not that apart from all giving, there are difficult giving and so on separately. This is what is to be indicated. One cannot give with three reasons: being very attached and clinging to oneself; being particularly attached to the object to be given; and the object to be given being very difficult to obtain. These three reasons, the Bodhisattva subdues and abandons, and then gives. This is established as "Difficult Giving." "Having little" means distinguishing only by one's own livelihood. "Harming oneself" means that in all of everything, separating from everything that one is to enjoy, subduing uninterrupted suffering, and giving daily, this is the first difficult giving, because it does not depend on oneself. The object to be given is also of two types: belonging to sentient beings and not belonging to sentient beings. Among them, for those belonging to sentient beings, attachment and clinging will arise for three reasons: the cause of habituation in other lifetimes, becoming very fond for no reason, which is what is said, "Naturally fond"; a long-term connection, which is what is said, "Long-term familiarity"; being very necessary for accomplishing things, which is what is said, "Very useful." For such objects

It is giving away possessions by relinquishing attachment to them. Those things that are not part of sentient beings, but are things that are needed nearby. Things that are worthless or of great value are called excellent things. Abundant, or perfect in color, etc., is called supremely excellent. Attachment to such things, that is, suppressing attachment and giving alms, and not even considering such things, is called difficult almsgiving. It is accomplished with a large collection of objects by three kinds of causes, namely, one's own small merit, the small power of the place, and the small power of the time. In such cases, even if it is difficult to obtain things, one gives them away without regard to obtaining them. What is given also enters through two doors, and to whom it is given also enters through two doors, so giving alms through all means has four aspects, because it enters through four doors. One's own possessions are completely taken by oneself, such as one's mother, and those who must be nourished and filled are nourished in one way, and therefore given. Alms are also given to those who are suffering and those who desire. In this way, it enters through two doors. If the dharma to be given has no autonomy, then anyone else who generates the desire and obtains it in accordance with the dharma, that is, as before, gives alms to two kinds of objects. That also enters through two doors, so such four aspects are called entering through four doors. A Bodhisattva is the best of men, so he is called a noble man. All his almsgiving should be established as the almsgiving of a noble man, like butter that does not smell good. Furthermore, there are five kinds of almsgiving. For a Bodhisattva, there is no almsgiving without faith. Therefore, giving alms with faith is the almsgiving of a noble man. Because he has great joy in the three times, it is called the almsgiving of faith, or because it is completely in accordance with the distinction of the three roots of virtue. Almsgiving with respect, almsgiving with diligence, almsgiving at the time of obtaining, and almsgiving that does not harm others. The types of almsgiving of a noble man
