These five, if briefly summarized, can be divided into two types. The first is acting solely with intention (བསམ་པ་). The four are acting solely with action (སྦྱོར་བ་), namely, praising, doing, perfecting the enjoyment of proximity, and exercising the power of not harming others. Furthermore, it should be understood that there are four distinctions: particularly the distinction of special faith, the distinction of one's own action, the distinction of time, and the distinction of not harming others. Moreover, non-harming giving is also of two types: to one's own retinue and to those including those who are being cared for. Even if it is one's own property, one should not give if the retinue who have achieved wealth become tearful. One should not give by seizing the wealth of those including those who are being cared for. Possessing all aspects is the giving of all aspects, and those aspects are explained in those sutras, and one should understand by following those sutras. Because of giving generously, it is called non-reliant giving, which is not desiring fame and so on. Because one always extends a hand, it is called non-miserly giving, because one possesses the gesture of extending a hand. Because one delights in giving, it is called joyful giving, because one possesses great joy in the three times. Because one possesses constant offering giving, it is called uninterrupted giving, because one possesses the giving of constantly giving to protect sentient beings. Being completely in accordance with giving is giving to a vessel, which is giving to one who is not a wrong livelihood practitioner. Delighting in distributing is giving to a non-vessel, which is giving to everyone from renunciants to those walking on the road. Completely giving away all internal self-nature objects is called giving everything. Giving to those who harm, those who benefit, those who possess qualities, and those who suffer is called giving to all. Or giving to one's own place and other places is called giving to all. Giving at all times, day and night, is called giving at all times, which is without a fixed time. Furthermore, it is said that giving at all times is giving at all times of wealth and poverty.

Non-material giving is called faultless giving, or giving that is completely free from afflictions. Giving that becomes a gateway to accumulation is called giving of all material things, and what becomes a gateway to accumulation includes things like the substance of fields. Why is it said? It is said to be the substance of the place, the wealth and grain of the accumulation, or things like that. Some say that the substance of all sentient beings is giving, but if that were the case, then it would be wrong to say that the giving of non-sentient beings is also giving. Poverty and desire are poverty and desire, and desire itself is having desire. Therefore, giving is giving to the poor and the desirous, and it is the meaning of entering in order to eliminate poverty and cut off desire. From the desire for ornaments and utensils to the desire for perfume, it is called giving to desire, because it makes the mind happy. Giving food and so on is called giving to the poor, because it eliminates poverty, becomes a cause for averting suffering, and a cause for increasing it. In order to eliminate the six kinds of suffering, one should know the eight kinds of giving. Among the six kinds of suffering, hunger and thirst arise together, and giving that eliminates suffering is called giving food and drink in order to eliminate that poverty. There are two kinds of that, begging and not begging. Among them, not begging is when one sees someone completely tormented by hunger and thirst and gives without being asked, therefore it is called giving without begging. Giving after begging with desires is called giving with begging. Similarly, for riding and so on, one should combine them as appropriate. Giving a ride in order to eliminate the suffering of lacking the means to travel on the road. The suffering of having no clothes is for those who have no shame and are far away, and clothes are given in order to eliminate that suffering. For those who suffer from poverty due to desire, for those who clearly want things, for those who have desire, giving is done from ornaments to fragrance and perfume in order to eliminate that suffering.
