One does not crave or accept such bodily things that accomplish much ripening on the earth. To show that it is not out of craving for self, one would not even give a hundredth part. One should understand that even a thousandth part, a number, a fraction, a count, and a cause would not be given, as names exceeding ten decimal places. Thus, for the time being, by placing oneself in great reverence, it is said to show the activity of approaching perfection, such as "one will not become weary." When listening to the Dharma, there will be no harm to the body, nor will the mind be discouraged, nor will memory be forgotten. Like rivers to the ocean, one will not be satisfied with hearing, and there will be no contentment. Therefore, a Bodhisattva is called the ocean of hearing, because hearing does not fill, and not hearing does not diminish. Believing that what is well-spoken and well-obtained is endowed with great meaning is called having faith. Obtaining joy and great joy through it is called having more joy. Not having hatred for what is well-spoken is called having a gentle mind-stream. Not having other actions with the body towards the Dharma and the speaker of Dharma is called being upright. Not having wavering in the mind is called seeing uprightly. One should know that all these are the fruits of placing oneself in great reverence. It is also the cause of approaching perfection. In order to show the four ways of approaching perfection that are free from discordant aspects, it is said that one seeks the qualities of learning and knowledge: "Because he desires qualities." In order to show its discordant aspect, it is said: "Not with a mind of finding fault," meaning not with a mind of finding shortcomings. Because one prostrates and approaches with the attitude of treating the virtuous friend as a teacher, it is said: "He goes with reverence." In order to show that there is no discordant aspect, it is said: "Not with pride and arrogance," meaning without a mind of pride and arrogance. Completely seeking all the Dharmas such as virtue

Its intention is to seek what kind of virtue, etc. Showing its opposite is, it is not for the sake of self-proclamation, meaning not to say, "Is there a person like me?" After hearing, in order to accomplish the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, the perfection of listening to the Dharma that interrupts between oneself and others is endowed with sixteen aspects. When showing the concise meaning of those aspects. In short, the fault of interrupting listening is twofold: with impure intention, like a dog seeking evil things, and being attached, at the time of listening to the Dharma, one is presently inclined towards evil discriminations. In order to show its antidote, it is said, without all afflictions, etc. The fault of not remembering is that the mind is distracted to other objects, in order to show its antidote, it is said, listen to the Dharma without distraction, etc. One should distinguish the absence of all afflictions that have eliminated the three afflictions. Those who make themselves arrogant with six kinds, should be known as the affliction of arrogance. The arrogance of being arrogant with a noble lineage, and its antidote is said, bowing down at times, etc., meaning to follow the Dharma speaker. With power and master, etc., also, and its antidote is said, paying homage respectfully, etc. Being arrogant with appearance, and its antidote is said, listening well and respecting, etc. Because one is unwilling to hear much, in order to make oneself high, there are those who listen, so in order to counteract it, it is said, without jealousy, etc. The greatness of wisdom is twofold: the ability to know the meaning individually and the ability to see subtle faults. Being arrogant with the merits of possessing such wisdom, and its antidote is said, following in order and not seeking faults, etc. Following also has other meanings.

It should be clearly shown. There are four ways of disparaging the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma: towards the Dharma, thinking it is well spoken; towards the meaning, not taking it to heart; towards the speaker of the Dharma, not considering him a virtuous friend; and also towards the Dharma, thinking it lacks various words and meanings; towards the speaker of the Dharma, thinking that his lineage, discipline, appearance, speech, etc., are inferior. If one possesses these four antidotes, one will be free from the all-pervasive afflictions of disparagement. Thinking that one has no ability is the all-pervasive affliction of cowardice. The all-pervasive affliction corresponding to this antidote will also be eliminated. Thus, through these eleven ways, one can be free from the three all-pervasive afflictions. In order to show through the words of the sutra containing the eleven ways, it is shown by "listening at the right time" and so on. Distraction is of four kinds: distraction to the meaning, distraction to the letters, distraction to the memory, and distraction to the attention. Distraction to the meaning is because it is gathered inward and can enter without effort, therefore, its antidote is to have a mind of complete understanding. Consciousness transcends its own object, its antidote is single-pointedness of mind. Distraction to the letters is the wandering of the senses such as the eyes in other external objects. Its antidote is "listening." These two are respectively called distraction from outside to inside and external distraction. Distraction of memory is the inability to remember because of not respectfully accepting, therefore, its antidote is "right attention," which is good attention, called right attention. Distraction of attention is not paying attention to thoughts and ideas, and understanding the words and meanings in a reversed way. Its antidote is "listening to the Dharma after thinking with the mind," etc., which is very attentive. Dharma.
