If it is said that only the mind of sentient beings with afflictions creates it, then that is inherently sinful. A mind without afflictions can also practice it, and whatever the Bhagavan has prescribed in order to protect against other faults is a prescribed fault. This should also be examined: Is it possible or not that even unwillingly, a mind without afflictions can separately examine and drink alcohol from the secret instructions of medicine? What will become of this? If it exists, then how can a mind without afflictions commit sinful deeds? If it does not exist, then in the same way, how can drinking become a mind without afflictions? Because one knowingly drinks alcohol, which is known to be sinful, without shame. How can holding onto sinful alcohol as not sinful become not sinful? Moderate drinking cannot make one drunk, and even so, knowingly drinking, why would it become sinful? For example, if one mixes a measured amount of poison and eats it, it does not have the power to produce the fault of poison, just as it does not become a fault. Therefore, all drinking is not committing sinful deeds. Most people who drink alcohol drink alcohol in order to get drunk, thinking, "I must be happy no matter what." Or, knowing that they will get drunk, those people's minds are afflicted, so it should be understood here that it becomes a physical sinful deed. Those themselves are the cause of going to bad destinies. Because there are many faults, it is the basis of the place of non-vigilance. From drinking to not being able to distinguish the time, it is absolutely not allowed. Because those who are free from desire also practice it, whatever is practiced by those who are free from desire is not unwholesome. Alcohol is also drunk by those who are free from desire, therefore it is not inherently sinful. The word "etc." indicates untimely food, etc. "Protecting the minds of others" means the term "protecting the minds of others."
