Because of returning, and because there is no time of inconsistency. Discrimination and analysis are not, because they are the nature of one substance, and because after completely searching for the meaning, one separately analyzes and examines it. If one speaks from the perspective of continuity, then it exists for that reason. Regarding this, the sutra itself says, 'How do monks, discrimination and analysis follow?' 'Monk, continuity follows discrimination and analysis, then it follows in one mind, but not by birth.' What is the object of observation for discrimination and analysis? The meaning that relies on the collection of names, the collection of sentences, and the collection of letters is the object of observation, and the meaning called 'relying on the collection' is what they are to express. How are they the object of observation? That is because it enters the object in connection with the appearance, therefore it is called 'spoken in the mind.' How is it possible for eye consciousness and so on? Because it is thrown by mind consciousness, like hatred and so on. Some say that those arising from close abiding are simply impossible. Others say that even what arises from close abiding only enters the meaning in connection with explicit expression. If it is not so, then for that which is separated from all characteristics of explicit expression of its meaning, it is unreasonable for mind consciousness to determine it as blue and also to superimpose. For example, by the wisdom attained from the aftermath, I have completely understood in this way, although it manifests realization, but there is no discrimination for manifest realization, so is it not possible for this as well? Thus, the wisdom attained from the aftermath of a yogi does not only realize in this way, but those that arise from skillful means realize. The former is also like that, thus mind consciousness does not only realize in this way, but it establishes it afterwards through experience and symbolic means, if you say so, that is not possible, in eye consciousness, the end of appearing blue arises.

Furthermore, the aspect of mind-consciousness is also acknowledged to be similar to that aspect. Because it is in accordance with it, it can be inferred that the former also has manifest expression. Similarly, there is not even a slight similarity between the wisdom of suchness and the wisdom attained thereafter, because one is completely non-conceptual, while the other clings to the grasper and the grasped. "Focusing on that very object" means the mind's complete search for the sign, which is any definite conceptualization. "Specifically giving up" means similarly distinguishing individually and concluding. At the time of manifestation, definite conceptualization comes from complete diligence. For non-manifestation, there is no definite conceptualization from complete diligence, it is merely arising. Thus, those two are shown as following wisdom and thought, and in order. "Speech arises completely" refers to the arising of words completely. Or, speech arises completely from those, because those are prior and are the cause of terms. There are seven types of detailed distinctions, from the one with signs and the one without signs, up to the non-afflicted, as before, referring to the one with signs, the one without signs, entering by itself, the seeker, individual distinction, and the non-afflicted. As for the wisdom that transcends the world, because some worldly people also have no conceptualization, so the three realms also have no conceptualization, and there are also those without conceptualization and examination. If manifestation and individual distinction are also present in the second dhyana and so on, why are those not also with conceptualization and examination? Because it is only present when rising, but not present when in equipoise. "Other than that" refers to those other than conceptualization and examination. "The conduct of suffering" refers to those arising from being harmed by suffering. As for "having unpleasantness," why is it said to have suffering? Some say, because the undesirable object

Because various things constantly arise, the eye consciousness, etc., do not enter intensely, so they say. Some also say that although eye consciousness, etc., have suffering, because there is harm from speech, there is no intense thought and investigation in them, so they should not be said to have suffering. The term "Yakshas with great magical powers" can also be used for some animals, because it is similar to this, so it has been classified in one way before, so it is only a statement. The term "touch that is definitely the gathering of the inner painful realm" means that "inner" is because it is born from meditation. The term "definitely wanting to be inseparable from happiness" is because happiness has been obtained. Then, what is appropriate attention, imputation, and establishment? The "then" refers to: realm and characteristic, appropriately, etc., here "what is appropriate attention, imputation, and establishment" should be connected as before. There are six kinds of places, namely: the time of certainty, the time of reversal, the time of karma, the time of detachment from worldly desire, the time of detachment from desire beyond the world, and the time of benefiting sentient beings. The first is those that are similar to faith and have thought and investigation. The second is those that are similar to knowing shame and having embarrassment. The third is those that have diligence and are similar to non-attachment, etc. The fourth is those that are similar to extreme training. The fifth is those that are similar to carefulness and equanimity. The sixth is the place of those that are similar to non-harming. If you ask: How is it the time of certainty and the place of faith? Because faith even believes in things that are difficult to believe, saying "This was said by the Bhagavan," and believing is certainty. Then, what is the object of thought and investigation that has appropriate attention? There are eight objects, namely, the object of merit arising from giving, etc.
