Those who have the seeds of permanent obscurations, for those lineages that never attain nirvana, there are no seeds of afflictive obscurations. Those who have the seeds of permanent cognitive obscurations, some are established as Śrāvaka lineages, and some are established as Pratyekabuddha lineages. Those who do not possess both of these (afflictive and cognitive obscurations) are said to be Tathāgata lineages. Thus it is said, and the establishment of the result is also indicated by that (text). Others say: If it is only the absence of the seed of bodhi. Which of the three (Śrāvaka, Pratyekabuddha, Tathāgata) does not possess, which does not possess the seeds of the three bodhis, and is of the nature of never attaining nirvana? In the bodhisattva ground, sharp faculties and so on are the cause, and are considered to be capacity and lineage. The seeds of faith and so on are only subsequent existences, and there is no place called evil destiny, because it will be mentioned below. The scripture is not definitive, but the reasoning is valid. The uncontaminated mind and mental factors arise from the seeds abiding in the resultant consciousness, because they have the ability to arise. All contaminated minds and mental factors are the same, the difference being space. Focusing on suchness is the seed of the supramundane, because it is the path. Like the mundane path, the difference is space. The treatise that is arranged in this way cannot be straightforward, because it has been extensively differentiated very clearly. Therefore, both can be established, just as the establishment of suchness and the realization of the four truths. There is no contradiction either. Because the reason has already been stated at the end of possessing the five aggregates of consciousness. Some say: If both can be established, then one of the two will be straightforward and one will be primary. For example, in this teaching itself, the establishment starts from the extensive establishment of the four truths, but the establishment of suchness as it is, is the truth. Therefore, just as that is primary, then for this (two), from where is it said what is primary? The occasion of scripture and reasoning.
