Regarding "not making additions," what has not been taught is neither logical nor illogical. Since it is included in the illogical, in order not to make additions, wouldn't there be the fault of excess in this? Answer: Because the intention is only to state negation, therefore, taking the Madhyamaka, which establishes both of those extremes as antidotes, there will be no fault of excess. Or, what has not been taught is only making additions, such as saying, "I will perform actions and create," etc. One does not manifestly cling to additions such as "I am permanent," etc. The various names of what arises from reasoning completely show, in order, the wisdom arising from one's own conceptualization, the wisdom arising from scripture, and the wisdom arising from realization. "The abiding of dharma" refers to the abiding of dharmas with their respective self-characteristics and general characteristics, etc. "Conceptualization" refers to clinging to characteristics during the time of yoga practice. "Complete knowledge" refers to what will definitely be obtained from that. "To make it scattered" indicates the faults of karma with two words here. Regarding "fear and dread," extreme fear is called fear, and not wanting to speak of distinctions is called dread. "Blessed by spirits" means blessed by non-humans, and even without fear, it is a cause of mental distraction. "Attending to the sign of darkness" means that whether light exists or not, one makes the mind focus on the sign of darkness. Regarding "its entanglement is unbearable," here "its" refers to sleep. The entanglement of sleep is also of three types: small, medium, and large. Small entanglement makes objects unclear, medium entanglement makes one fall asleep while still conscious, and large entanglement causes one's own mind stream to cease or suddenly awaken, therefore it is said, "its entanglement is unbearable." Regarding "disturbed by wind and bile," bile is the substance of the main element, and wind is merely a companion. Regarding "the entanglement of fainting," the word "entanglement" indicates

Even fainting, when seized and pressed down, is shown to be entangled in the same way as others. During the time of fainting, the mind consciousness, which is the nature of awareness, undoubtedly arises in each individual body. The function of mind consciousness is solely to awaken from fainting. 'Consciousness like the place of bodily and verbal actions' means to perform actions in such a way. 'To speak such words' means to generate the desire that is the cause of bodily and verbal actions. The sound 'like a place' is said to be the cause because it is said that the dharmas that are near are desire, like the place of attachment to desire. 'Not attending to its appearance, signs, and characteristics' means that whatever the appearance, signs, and characteristics are, they will be completely lost by not attending to them. Complete purity is how to be free from attachment to the desire realm, the reasoning that refutes the desire realm, and so on, and the basis for generating great joy in the first dhyana, and so on. The signs are those by which one will know whether I will not enter the first dhyana for a long time, or have entered into samadhi, or have arisen from it, which is the sign of entering a town. Characteristics are of two kinds: the object and the basis. Or it refers to the image of the object of meditative absorption. Regarding 'the dharma that will be completely lost', the dharmas that will be completely lost are the various thoughts about desire, and so on. As it is said in the Sutra of the Six Sources: 'Monks, I will explain to you the dharmas that will be completely lost,' and so on. Relying on the forms that can be perceived by the eye, various thoughts arise about desire, as well as union with it, and the arising of attachment. Monks, if you take great delight in them, then you will be completely lost to virtue, and so on, as it is extensively explained. 'Obscured by afflictions' refers to a meditator in whom craving and the like are dominant. Possessing a dharma in which sinful thoughts are predominant, especially in behavior.
