Remaining in purity, well-abiding, closely abiding, extremely abiding, not being distracted, not being agitated, gathering, calming, samadhi, and the very one-pointedness of mind, this is called samadhi. Similarly, the discrimination of phenomena, the good discrimination, the phenomena' good discrimination, the correct reflection, the close reflection, the showing, the good reflection, the holding onto existence, the believing, the intelligence, the wise, the reflection, and the higher seeing, this is called wisdom. Similarly, clinging to the Thus-Gone One with faith, and so on. Similarly, these two dharmas are what sustain the world, namely, knowing shame and having embarrassment. Also, because one should be ashamed, one makes one ashamed, because one should be embarrassed, one makes one embarrassed, and so on. Similarly, non-attachment, non-hatred, and non-ignorance are the roots of virtue. Similarly, abiding in the commencement of diligence is having power, and so on. Similarly, the body is exceedingly pliable due to joy of mind. Similarly, all virtuous dharmas that arise, all of them arise from the root of mindfulness. Similarly, in order to eliminate covetousness and displeasure, the mind is made equanimous. Abiding in equanimity is being mindful and aware. Similarly, what the wise know closely is non-harming. Similarly, one does not know the dharmas because of attachment, this is a verse. Similarly, one who is hateful is overcome by hatred. One who is deluded is overcome by delusion. Similarly, these three are forms of pride, namely, thinking oneself great, and so on. Similarly, by this, three pervasive practices are abandoned, namely, the view of the aggregates, the holding to moral discipline and asceticism as supreme, and doubt. Similarly, son of Katyayana, this world abides, namely, it abides in existence and non-existence, this shows that this is a view of holding to extremes. And it is said that that is a nihilistic view.
