Also, in the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: "Mahamati, eye-consciousness arises from four causes. What are the four? They are: 1. Not understanding the appearance of one's own mind; 2. Manifestly clinging to the karmic imprints of form, which are the basis of elaboration, from beginningless time; 3. The very nature of consciousness; 4. Being amazed by the characteristics of various forms. Mahamati, these four causes cause the alaya-consciousness, like a stream of water, to give rise to waves of entering consciousness." And so on. Also, in the same text, it says: "Yogis think, 'We stop the consciousnesses and enter into equipoise.' But they enter into equipoise while the consciousnesses have not stopped, because the seeds of habit have not stopped, therefore they have not stopped. Because they do not enter into objects and have no clinging, they have stopped. Mahamati, the movement and entry of the alaya-consciousness is so subtle that it is not easily understood by others, except for the Tathagatas and the Bodhisattvas who abide on the ground, and the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and non-Buddhist yogis." Thus it is said. Similarly, in the Arya Dense Array Sutra, it is said: "Just as the moon abides in the sky together with a host of stars, So too, the alaya-consciousness abides in the body together with the consciousnesses. Just as the senses are pervaded by the wind, propelled by one's own karma, So too, consciousness arises together with the seven waves." Thus it is said. Also, in the same text, it says: "Likewise, the alaya-consciousness, together with the habits of the seven consciousnesses, Always abides and arises together, yet there is no transformation of affliction." Thus it is said. The Mahayana sutras are not the words of the Buddha, just like the scriptural statements that arise from one, etc., because they teach the means to enlightenment, teach the selflessness of persons, speak of the qualities of the Three Jewels, teach the means of abandoning afflictions, and so on, for countless reasons. In the Hearer Vehicle, it is also said in the Great Belly King Sutra: "O Shariputra, endowed with life, for example, two arrow shafts in the sky..."

Just as props support each other, if one is removed, the other will fall. Similarly, these two dharmas also rely on each other and exist interdependently. For example, name and form arise from consciousness, and consciousness arises from name and form. Furthermore, in the sutras, when the Blessed One distinguished name and form, he said, 'What is name and form?' It refers to the four non-form aggregates. It is not different anywhere else. Therefore, it should be considered that there is another consciousness that arises simultaneously with name and form, becoming four. Similarly, in the sutra called 'Agreeing with the Aspect of the Initial Distinction,' it is also said, 'Venerable, in this way, actions arise simultaneously with the six aggregates of consciousness, existing in accordance with consciousness. Why is it said that consciousness arises from action?' Bhikshu, in this way, the six aggregates of consciousness arise simultaneously with meritorious, non-meritorious, and unwavering actions, existing in accordance without interruption. In the manner in which consciousness is born in other lives, they leave the imprints of actions on the matured consciousness.' Similarly, the Mahasanghika of the noble Sangha, the Sthavira school, the Sarvastivada school, the Dharmaguptaka school, the Haimavata school, the Haimavata school, and the Vibhajyavada school, etc., also established the great path with their own terms and names, such as the root consciousness, the limb of existence, the alaya consciousness, the aggregate of samsara, etc., and thus elaborated on them in the Mahayana-samgraha, etc. Even fragmented sutras can be understood as the teachings of the Buddha simply through the reasoning of fearing debate. For the time being, these are the Agamas. In terms of reasoning, the definite consciousness of mind certainly operates simultaneously with the mind that serves as its basis, because it is extremely clear.

It is for entering, like the concepts that depend on it, and so on. Dissimilar dharmas are like the mind in the cessation attainment. Similarly, for the side of eye consciousness, it is also because it manifestly focuses only on form, so it should be said to be like the feeling that depends on it. The opposite is like mountains and so on. Similarly, ear consciousness and so on should also be explained one by one. Furthermore, for the side of the five aggregates of consciousness, it is also because it focuses on one side of form, so it should be explained as before. Similarly, mind consciousness depends on consciousness of one cause and one time, because habit is the function of a door, like attachment and so on that are associated with it. The opposite is like before. Similarly, the words that indicate the alaya consciousness are the meaning of truth, because they are spoken by the Tathagata. Just like the words explaining the aggregates and so on, because it is spoken by the Tathagata, it is only the first and so on. I am merely speaking of inference from the standpoint of others, but the detailed dharmas that each individual should understand for themselves cannot be established by conceptual thought. As it is said in the Sutra: The Dharma is well spoken by the Bhagavan, and it is to be understood individually by the wise. Also, friends, I say that I have understood the Dharma that is profound, difficult to see, inconceivable, and not within the realm of conceptual thought. Similarly, in the treatise made for the sake of language and words, it is also said: Without the scriptures, by conceptual thought, dharmas cannot be established. The wisdom of the righteous, that also has the scriptures as its precedent. Just as a blind man gropes with his feet and runs on a dangerous path, those who cling to inference are not difficult to fall. It is also because of this that it is said. Therefore, some people harm the alaya consciousness, which arises from all the scriptures, with mere dry conceptual thought. Those people are very biased, so the determination should be collected.
