Abiding by these actions prevents transgressions. In brief, there are five types of activities: those of the Sangha, those of purification, those of the village, those of virtue, and those that are urgent. Among these, the activities of the Sangha are as follows: In the Hearer Vehicle, thirteen types of Sangha activities have been explained. The activities of purification are also as follows: They should be understood as explained in the context of cultivating mindfulness by the Hearers. The activities of the village are entering the village for the sake of one's Dharma robes, etc., or for the sake of the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and those who practice the pure conduct; to inspire faith in the faithless, and to increase the faith of those who already have faith. The activities of virtue are those that begin with the activities of the Sangha or the activities of purification, and engage in the proper practice of Dharma in accordance with the Dharma for the sake of virtuous aspects. Urgent activities are those related to the begging bowl and Dharma robes, as well as the activities related to the Khenpo (abbot), Acharya (teacher), those who practice the pure conduct, and the sick, etc. It should be understood that the five activities that are the opposite of these, through five types of inconsistencies, can be understood as the five types of activities that should not be done. What is it that is without transgression? Only five causes prevent transgression: What are the five? Dwelling while guarding the doors of the senses, knowing the measure of food, striving without sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, and acting with mindfulness—this is the first cause. Furthermore, frequently observing the conduct of renunciates, having great faith and respect for the teacher and those who practice the pure conduct, being mostly ashamed of universally blameworthy actions, and possessing a sense of shame—this is the second cause. Furthermore, having few activities, few desires, few tasks, and little busyness—this is the third cause. Furthermore, dwelling without mixing with householders and renunciates, being skilled in transgression and non-transgression through mindfulness, and being single-mindedly focused on the aspect of virtue—this is the fourth cause. Furthermore, the novice, the insane, the mind

Disturbance and the danger of feelings should be known as the fifth cause. The first of these five causes does not itself lead to a fall. What is the recovery from a fall? It arises from three causes. What are the three? Generating five regrets, being mindful with five limbs, and eliminating regret in five ways. For example, if someone has any kind of fall, they generate regret for five reasons: thinking that they will be blamed by the precepts because of this basis, they generate regret; thinking that they will be blamed by others and the gods, they generate regret; thinking that they will be blamed by the teacher and the wise who practice the same as Brahma, they generate regret; thinking that in all directions and intermediate directions, the fame of unpraiseworthy sinful people, and sounds and verses will increase, they generate regret; thinking that if they are born in the lower realms after their body is destroyed because of this basis, it will not be good, they generate regret. Being mindful with five limbs is like this: as taught in the Hearer's Ground, having the previous limit, having the later limit, having the middle limit, acting from five times, and practicing together accordingly, it should be understood as such. What are the five ways to eliminate regret? The Blessed One has taught the Dharma with a basis and with definite emergence, thinking that there is an opportunity to rise from the fall, they eliminate the regret that has arisen; not knowing what causes the fall due to ignorance, carelessness, many afflictions, and disrespect, having abandoned the state of ignorance and disrespect, and having correctly generated the state of knowledge and respect, they eliminate the regret that has arisen; in order to prevent the fall from happening again, the mind has arisen from a superior intention, they eliminate the regret that has arisen; having confessed individually in front of the wise who practice the same as Brahma, they eliminate the regret that has arisen; if one has gone forth into the well-spoken Dharma Vinaya, if one violates the training, one will regret it,
