Associating with virtuous friends and following them, not being accustomed to compassion for sentient beings or having little compassion, and extensively teaching practice in unsuitable fields, etc., obtaining enjoyment with great difficulty, and being accustomed to the notion of obtaining it with great difficulty, being unhappy and regretting in the three times, solely regarding enjoyment as virtue and not regarding it as fault, wrongly taking and dedicating it. These eight should be known as the stains of miserliness. Furthermore, those with crippled limbs, even though there are other means of livelihood, make a living by means of crippled limbs, and by other means afflict their own bodies with the three kinds of afflictions. This is the third increase of harm to this life. Furthermore, some who desire heaven strive for the sake of heaven, but because they do not understand heaven, they do not eat food, throw themselves into fire, jump off cliffs, etc., thereby harming themselves. This is the fourth increase of harm to this life. Furthermore, some who desire purity do not understand the path of purity, and because they understand purity through the harm of the law of suffering, they torment themselves in various ways. Truly tormenting oneself, this is the increase of harm to this life, which is to be practiced by children, the fifth increase. Therefore, these five harms should be completely abandoned by those who are diligent in the training of monastic discipline. The five qualities of diligence in the training of monastic discipline cause the non-faithful to have faith and the faithful to increase. What are these five? They are perfect morality, perfect view, perfect conduct, perfect livelihood, and the absence of mutual fighting and contention. Among these, perfect morality has ten aspects, namely, as it is well received from the first stage of the Hearer's Ground, not being too timid, not being too excessive, etc., as explained in detail. Perfect view, in brief, has five aspects, namely, abandoning the view of the aggregates of destruction and the view of holding to extremes, which are additive, abandoning the false view of slander, and the views related to it.

Having abandoned clinging, and having abandoned the view of clinging to discipline and asceticism, and having abandoned the views of merit, truth, purity, etc. The perfection of ritual also has five aspects: temporary activities, and activities in the direction of virtue, or whatever rituals that rely on conduct and do not contradict the world and discipline, etc., as taught in the Hearer's Ground. The perfection of livelihood also has five aspects: because of abandoning the Dharma of livelihood by means of hypocrisy, etc., as taught in the Hearer's Ground. Having completely abandoned the six roots of mutual fighting and disputing, the six roots of disputing are anger and resentment, etc., as extensively stated in the sutras. The six roots of disputing also rely on six places, and it should be understood that they are distinguished. What are the six? Because of the fear of being harmed, wanting to conceal one's own faults, that person whose pride is extremely strong, at another time, the co-celibates will speak about that basis in front of one or two or many, and for him, that is also completely disagreeable, therefore the body is also completely tormented, and the mind is also completely tormented. In this way, because pride is extremely strong, if others slander me in front of others, that is not allowed, thinking like that is complete torment, and concealing the previous downfall is concealment. In this way, because pride is extremely strong, wanting to conceal one's own faults, both of these are the root of disputing. A monk who behaves everywhere in a deceitful and cunning way, and is also dependent on others by nature, like this: Knowing that there is great merit, being respectful for the sake of gain, serving, not out of love, not out of respect, not out of desire for the Dharma, that is also it. Similarly, for the teacher who gives lodging, who is of an upright and good nature, to dwell as one pleases, and that itself will become one's own, I don't need to do anything, thinking like that and then taking it, that is also it. Similarly, the same celibacy

Acting like a wise person, one with great merit, regards the matter of revering the sacred Dharma as more important than other immediate matters, considering that all these will be accomplished, and accepting them as companions, is also like that. Similarly, even if a transgression occurs, when urged and questioned by those who behave like brahmacharis, they will change their speech, and this is because acting with a false attitude, abiding in falsehood and deception, will lead to disputes, and the rest should be understood accordingly. The five dharmas that are the opposite of this should be understood as causing faith in those who do not have faith, and increasing the faith of those who already have it. It should be known that a bhikshu who is diligent in the training of discipline and possesses the five powers of right practice is perfect in every way. What are the five? They are the power of application, the power of intention, the power of realization, the power of knowledge, and the power of abiding. Simply because one wants to learn, one should, from the bottom of one's heart, be extremely respectful of all the trainings, and learn in order to tame oneself, pacify oneself, and completely extinguish oneself, this is the power of application. When a transgression occurs, one confesses with firm intention, this is the power of intention. The remaining powers should be understood accordingly. The mother chapter on discipline is complete, the compilation of discipline is complete. Translated, edited, and finalized by the Indian Abbot Prajnavarma, Jinamitra, and the editor-translator Lotsawa Pandit Yeshede and others. The Compilation of Discipline from the Yogacarabhumi.
