Regarding a monk's misconduct and the accumulation of transgressions, it should be understood that what should be kept secret, what should not be kept secret, what should be proclaimed, and the fault of concealing are all transgressions. Regarding enjoying robes and the like without examination, it should be understood that what should be relied upon, what should not be relied upon, not relying, and relying are all faults. Among these fifteen faults, some transgressions are very numerous, some have two, and some have one, it should be understood. These are the five aspects of the Dharma that gather the Vinaya: What five? Those that are naturally blameworthy and those that are with precepts, those that are with precepts and blameworthy, prohibitions, permissions, and procedures. What is naturally blameworthy and with precepts? Whatever is naturally unwholesome, that is, self-afflicting and causing distress to others, afflicting others, harming others, self-afflicting and harming, self-afflicting and harming, and whatever afflicts and harms both self and others, that is, engaging in what is not restrained will lead to bad migrations, and engaging in what is restrained will interrupt the conduct of a virtuous ascetic. What is blameworthy with precepts? Whatever the Bhagavan has abandoned because of the inconsistency of signs, because of respect for the sacred Dharma, because of conformity with what is naturally blameworthy and with precepts, because of protecting the minds of others, because of good migrations, because of life, and because it interrupts the conduct of a virtuous ascetic, engaging in that is called blameworthy with precepts. What is prohibition? Engaging in what leads to bad migrations, interrupts good migrations, interrupts the gain of Dharma, interrupts life, and interrupts the conduct of a virtuous ascetic is what the Tathagata has prohibited. Permission should be understood as the opposite of that. What is procedure? Procedure, in brief, is of three kinds: transgression and non-transgression, and rising from transgression. These, in brief, are of two kinds: improper procedure and proper procedure.

Accomplishment. Therein, falling into transgression is the accomplishment of wrong conduct, and being free from transgression and arising from transgression is the accomplishment of right conduct, it should be understood. So, how does falling into transgression arise? Because one does not apply oneself to what should be done, and because one applies oneself to what should not be done, transgression arises. These also arise from four causes: ignorance, negligence, many afflictions, and disrespect. How does it arise from ignorance? For example, here someone has not heard or understood transgression, therefore, because his mind is not mature, he perceives transgression as not being transgression due to ignorance, thus transgression will arise. Thus, it arises from ignorance. How does it arise from negligence? For example, here someone only applies his mind to transgression, but remains forgetful and remains without mindfulness, therefore, he does not maintain mindfulness, thus transgression will arise. Thus, it arises from negligence. How does it arise from afflictions? For example, here someone is only mentally mature regarding transgression, but he is greedy,

Medium. Other than that, it is a minor offense. Other categories include defeat and sanghavasesa, which are serious. A patayantika and a confession are medium. A dushkrita should be known as light. Thus, from the nature itself, it should be known that there are small, medium, and large. Among them, whatever is done out of ignorance, and whatever is done out of carelessness, that is a minor transgression. Whatever is done with much affliction is a medium transgression. Whatever is done with disrespect should be known as a major transgression. Thus, from the action, it should be known that there are small, medium, and large. Among them, whatever is done with small entanglement by being completely entangled by desire, hatred, and delusion, that should be known as small. Whatever is done with medium entanglement is medium. Whatever is done with great entanglement is great. Thus, from the intention, it should be known that there are small, medium, and large. Even if one commits an offense against the same basis of the same nature with the same intention, it should be known that it can also turn into small, medium, and large offenses. For example, if one intentionally kills a sentient being born in the animal realm with the same entanglement of hatred, it is a patayantika. Killing a non-human or a non-human being, who is neither a father nor a mother, is a defeat, but it will not become an immediate offense. If one kills a father or a mother with the same entanglement of hatred, it is both a defeat and it should also be known that it will become an immediate offense. Thus, from the form of the basis, it should be known that there are small, medium, and large offenses. From that and so on, for example, here, if some people commit one, two, three, or up to five transgressions, but do not repent according to the Dharma, that is a small transgression in the sangha. Beyond that, if one commits ten, twenty, or thirty transgressions, or up to the point where one can know them, but does not repent according to the Dharma, it should be known that it is a medium transgression in the sangha. If one commits countless transgressions and cannot know how many transgressions one has committed, it should be known that it is a major transgression in the sangha. What action? Whoever
