, as well as sinful friends, being foolish and having many afflictions, and having little merit from previous lives, this is the fifth. What are the five obstacles? Obstacles to higher discipline, obstacles to higher mind, obstacles to higher wisdom, obstacles to going to a good destination, and obstacles to gain, life, and immediate activities. What are the obstacles to higher discipline? For example, does someone here have memory? Are they imprisoned? Are they accused? Broadly speaking, possessing those qualities that obstruct ordination, this is called an obstacle to higher discipline. What are the obstacles to higher mind? Eleven obstacles are called obstacles to higher mind. From repeatedly gathering to subdue, etc., to ultimately dwelling in a bad place. What are the obstacles to higher wisdom? Disrespect for the Dharma and those who speak it, looking down on the Tathagata and those who speak the Dharma, looking down on oneself, being stingy with the Dharma, obstructing others from practicing the Dharma, turning away from the holy Dharma, slandering the holy Dharma, and so on, it should be known that these are obstacles to higher wisdom. What are the obstacles to going to a good destination? For example, someone here desires sin, has wrong views, is angry, holds grudges, and broadly speaking, truly accepts such causes of bad destinations, indulging in them, this is called an obstacle to going to a good destination. What are the obstacles to gain? For example, those who do not have faith do not generate faith, those who have faith change and enter for the sake of not generating faith, not desiring merit, not frequently helping others with the objects of merit arising from generosity, and so on. What are the obstacles to life? Not avoiding fierce elephants from afar, broadly speaking, not completely avoiding places accompanied by epidemic diseases and accompanied by harm, and those causes

I do not completely abandon those causes that lead to death before the end of life, such as these. Obstructing immediate tasks means not being diligent in tasks such as Dharma robes and begging bowls. To summarize these, know that it is cutting off gain, life, and immediate tasks. What is it that is disguised as the true Dharma? Know that, in short, being disguised as the true Dharma can be understood as two types: hearing explanations disguised as the true Dharma, and practicing cultivation disguised as the true Dharma. Regarding what is not the Dharma as the Dharma, proclaiming what is not the Dharma as the Dharma, and others also thinking that it is the Dharma, thus having the perception of regarding what is not the Dharma as the Dharma. However, in reality, that is not the true and correct Dharma, it only appears like the Dharma, therefore it is called explaining disguised as the true Dharma. Oneself also explains and causes others to accept it in this way, oneself also acts in this way, and thinks that it is the Dharma, but in reality is only falling into wrong paths, yet considers oneself to have correctly entered the right path, oneself fully understands these, know that this is practicing cultivation disguised as the true Dharma. The summary of the above eight types of being disguised as the true Dharma: The five dharmas and so on, the five faculties and so on, regret arising from inappropriate places, violence, transgression, not the last. Regarding the sutras spoken by the Tathagata, adulterating the sutras by altering words and phrases, and adulterating and abandoning the Vinaya, are all disguised as the true Dharma. With the view of superimposition, superimposing on what does not exist, with the view of denial, proclaiming impermanence and other meanings in the manner of the destruction of existing things, and explaining and cultivating oneself in that way, is also disguised as the true Dharma. In the sutras that speak of the existence of a person, proclaiming that a person with wrong views exists, is also disguised as the true Dharma. Completely proclaiming the dharmas that exist as appearances as existing as entities, is also disguised as the true Dharma. Regarding Nirvana, which is peaceful and without elaboration,
