That's all. The Tathagata teaches the practice of sense restraint to the Shravakas in order to properly and truly abandon afflictions, but it is not necessarily the case that they do not tend towards external objects. The Tathagata's mind is extremely firm in the three unmixed close mindfulnesses. Therefore, the Shravakas do not have special attachment, and through practicing correct practice, which is agreeable, and practicing wrong practice, which is disagreeable, they will not generate pervasive afflictions that follow attachment, and pervasive afflictions of torment. Therefore, although he and the Shravakas are similar in abandoning afflictions, the practice of sense restraint is unsurpassed. That practice of sense restraint should also be understood as transforming into five types through the distinctions of the five kinds of retinues. Among the Shravakas of the Bhagavan, there are those who definitely enter correctly and those who constantly enter correctly. Some definitely enter wrongly and some constantly enter wrongly. There are also those who enter correctly but not constantly, and those who enter wrongly but not constantly. There are also many kinds, among which some enter correctly, some are negligent, sometimes negligent, sometimes not negligent, thus tending towards one side, this is the fifth kind of retinue. Regarding this, what pleases the Tathagata is: for the Dharma well-spoken by the Shravakas, like this, those who diligently practice for the perfection of sense restraint. What does not please him is: those who practice wrongly, or do not diligently practice. Therefore, when the Tathagata sees the first retinue, joy arises; when he sees the second retinue, displeasure arises; when he sees the third retinue, joy and displeasure arise; when he sees the fourth retinue, displeasure and joy arise; when he sees the fifth retinue, joy arises, and displeasure also arises, both joy and displeasure arise. The Tathagata, through transforming in this way into five types, although joy and displeasure may arise

However, the Tathagata, having cultivated the senses, is free from defilements along with their residual imprints, and therefore will not again become afflicted with the appearance of attachment or the appearance of anger. Thus, the Tathagata has abandoned defilements along with their residual imprints. Based on this, because the mind dwells well, through transforming into five aspects, in order to prevent the Shravakas from arising afflictions, it is called the unsurpassed cultivation of the senses. In this, the Tathagata, in all transformations into five aspects, appropriately keeps in mind three antidotes. These are: the perception of impermanence, loving-kindness, and the samadhi of signlessness. These should also be understood appropriately. The Shravakas of the Bhagavan who have accomplished their purpose and are no longer learning are said to be cultivating the senses. Because they have long rejoiced in Nirvana, like before, whether they desire to fixate on a single object, sentient or non-sentient, or do not desire to fixate, similarly, when encountering appearances that are desirable or undesirable, because they are free from desire, hatred, and delusion, through liberation of mind and liberation of wisdom, quickly make the mind especially equanimous from signlessness. From the depths of the heart, they regard objects as discordant, and Nirvana as peaceful. Whenever one is able to abide so quickly in equanimity, and whenever a mind of affliction arising from forgetfulness does not arise even for a moment, by that alone, one should understand that the senses have been well cultivated. The continuum of a learner is mixed with afflictions, and therefore cannot quickly abide in equanimity. In all transformations into three aspects, because of hating afflictions, one avoids universally engaging in afflictions, and abides in the perception of discord and the perception of faults. The cultivation of the senses that enters in this way will become completely perfect, and therefore it is called truly entering. Therefore, this well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya is beautiful from the perspective of the teacher, and the Shravakas are able to attain the goal that should be attained, and through the perspective of truly diligently practicing
