Is my "self" permanent or impermanent? And, how is it permanent? How is it impermanent? Where does my "self" reside? In short, it is to completely seek the four aspects of the "self": nature, characteristic, cause, and place. Among these, the aggregates can be established by three aspects, and this establishment is also non-inverted. By one aspect, it cannot be established at all. Among these, establishing the nature of the "self" is the six consciousnesses arising from the twelve sources, along with feeling, perception, and thought; there is nothing separate from these. The "self" is impermanent because of birth, aging, and death. These aggregates are also like illusions because the manifestation of the body in beings is not yet fully accomplished. Perception, thought, and views are inverted, and because they are of the nature of causing delusion, they are like mirages. Because they are of the nature of arising and ceasing, they are coming and going. Because they are momentary, they are temporary. The disintegration and aggregation quickly connect from that to something else, so the dwelling is short-lived. They do not come from anywhere, nor do they go anywhere, so they arise from nothing and return from existence. In short, these aspects show the impermanence and cause that continue from one life to another, and also show the impermanence and cause that continue from one moment to another. Thus, these three aspects have truly established the nature, characteristic, and cause of the "self." For the aggregates, the place of the "self" cannot be established, because there are no aggregates different from this, and therefore the meaning of "self" has not become something else. Therefore, the aggregates are also empty in conventional truth; if they cannot be established, what need is there to speak of ultimate truth? Therefore, for those who are determined to be empty, one should only make the mind happy in order by properly understanding through hearing, establishing through thinking, and determining and realizing through meditation, truly making it happy, and completely making it happy.

It is about the part of desire, the part of desire is large, it is the place of instruction and suffering, there is no speculation and arrogance, it is not worthy of respect, practice wisdom liberation, speak of selflessness, equanimity and seeing the Dharma, suffering is the last. A person with three causes universally enjoys objects with great desire. What are the three causes? It is to have ability and strength, not to be weak; to be handsome, not to be ugly; to universally rely on desire, not to take a moderate attitude towards desire. In this way, even if a person with strong desire is completely grasped by the three antidotes, then by practicing pure conduct and abiding in the well-spoken Dharma and discipline, the mind will be tamed and completely pacified. What more to say about small or medium desire, or small part of affliction? What are the three antidotes? Relying on closing the doors of the senses, completely abandoning the extreme of the merit of desire; relying on moderation in diet, and not sleeping at night and dawn, completely abandoning the extreme of tiring oneself; relying on mindfulness and clear awareness, one will surely change through the Middle Way. Thus, for the four mindfulnesses, the mind abides very much, that is, when walking, when the appearance and characteristics of the object appear and are remembered, feelings arise, abide, and cease, and are truly known as they are; or, remembering the appearance and characteristics, the consciousnesses arise, abide, and cease, and are truly known as they are; for this reason, when abiding, the discrimination of abiding arises, abides, and ceases, and is truly known as it is. Such mindfulness and clear awareness at any time and in any way protect the mind from being distracted from the object, this is called mindfulness and clear awareness. Furthermore, mindfulness and clear awareness are superior because they obtain cessation samadhi, obtain no appearance, and obtain no discrimination and no speculation. Relying on the abode of the gods, it should be known that it is mindfulness and clear awareness, because there is nothing more excellent than the abode of mindfulness and clear awareness. Thus, cessation samadhi
