And be sure to understand that this is truly peaceful. After that, realize the nirvana without remainder. Earlier, like grass, branches, leaves, and ropes, by diligently practicing the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma through hearing, and firmly cultivating the noble path like a boat, one diligently strives on the path of meditation, and ultimately the mind is completely liberated, and one attains the state of dwelling in the realm of nirvana with remainder. One is completely liberated from all existence, and dwelling in this, one can recognize that one has reached the ultimate and crossed to the other shore of suffering. A renunciate in the well-spoken Vinaya, due to seven reasons, abandons learning and practice, becoming a cause of decline. What are the seven? First, one is an ordinary person and has not transcended the state of an ordinary person, not correctly understanding the five aggregates of grasping, that is, the five aggregates are the nature of suffering, and repeatedly experiencing five transformations. Second, being an ordinary person, one does not see the great faults of desires. Third, one is negligent in walking and dwelling, and grasps inappropriate signs of objects that cause attachment. Fourth, because mindfulness does not abide, one inappropriately contemplates the realizations that are like thorns in the aspect of virtue. Fifth, one is not courageous; if summoned by a king or someone with power, one goes out of fear. Sixth, one is full of desire, paying attention to relatives and friends; if called, one goes out of desire and develops attachment. Seventh, one generates strong afflictive entanglements towards objects that may cause hatred and delusion. The mindstream is associated with inferior things and is interested in them. For example, one does not believe in renunciation, solitude, and vast nirvana. Because one is interested in inferior things, the mind will focus on external objects. Because one does not pay attention to all things such as parents, one will not focus on solitude. Because one does not believe in the eightfold noble path, one will not focus on renunciation. Because one does not believe in the fruit of abandoning afflictions, one will not focus on nirvana. All defilements are abandoned by seeing.

That which is to be abandoned and that which is abandoned by cultivation are summarized in two places. Among them, inappropriate attention and object are called the Dharma of the place of outflows. Here, the inappropriate attention and object that arise from all outflows to be abandoned by the cultivation of learning, are understood by wisdom and abandoned. Because they are not abandoned, the mind becomes peaceful in that Dharma of the place of outflows. Because the pervasive entanglement transformed by the power of forgetfulness is weak, it is neither cooled nor celibate. By abandoning all of the outflows that arise from what is to be abandoned by seeing, it is cooled. Because it is the nature of not being born in the next life, it is not celibate. The ordinary person who desires the inferior, because he has not become peaceful in the Dharma of the place of outflows, is neither cooled nor celibate. Renunciation in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, then, by these seven causes, from the time of receiving the precepts, becomes the cause of decline. Conversely, the seven causes of white Dharma, then, renunciation in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, from the time of receiving the precepts, does not become the cause of decline. There are four places of pervasive attachment. If a monk relies on them, it should be known that he will become four kinds of wrong means. What are the four? Here, a monk is delighted in being born again and again because of existence in the inner source of birth, but he is not delighted in becoming peaceful in this life. This is the first place of pervasive attachment. Also, a monk looks at external objects, such as parents, that he has previously abandoned, and his mind is bound. This is the second place of pervasive attachment. Also, here there are some who are delighted with gain and respect in this life, and are extremely attached to gain and respect. This is the third place of pervasive attachment. Also, here there are some who are learners who have seen the ground, but they think, "This is me," and they have only a small amount of pride. They have a little existence in their bodies, and they are extremely indifferent, and they live negligently. This is the fourth place of pervasive attachment. What are the four wrong means? First, wanting to be born again and again:
