Because there is a mind like leprosy, it will be disgusted and displeased with those (people), even wise people who behave like Brahma recognize that it is bad and do not want it to be the behavior of practitioners, thus completely avoiding association with them. Even if one goes to a temple or monastery, (someone will say) this long-lived person is so flawed! So unpleasant! So not acting according to the Dharma! Always dwelling in afflictions! Causing those with faith to change their faith! Causing those without faith to become even more unbelieving! Thus they are scolded. In this way, one will experience the suffering arising from regret, disgust, complete avoidance, and scolding in this life, and adding the (suffering) arising from the next life, combined with the former, it is called experiencing only suffering. So, what is non-discipline? Regarding the faults of this life and the next, wherever one goes, regarding the place of walking, with improper signs and marks, with the inverted perception of grasping, and with the inverted perception of being in (a certain) state and dwelling, preceded by thoughts that are in accordance and similar to this, and all the faults as mentioned above, not seeing them at all, or even if one sees the faults, because one has not practiced them many times, resulting in bad habits belonging to the side of afflictions existing in the continuum, such as not being able to eliminate (these bad habits) with the extremely tamed body of body and mind, like that, being completely bound by various means, and separately observing while habits exist, and not being able to incline towards the antidote through the power of practice, this should be understood as non-discipline. The opposite of this should be understood as discipline. That discipline is obtained through three ways, and practice becomes complete. What are the three? First, having renounced in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, with hearing that possesses proper mastery, one grasps the six senses like grasping six creatures. Having grasped them, one obtains through proper attention, that is, in the interval before the practice below, (seeing) the faults.

It is tamed by means of correct observation. In the meantime, it is restrained, and with the intention of examining whether it has been tamed or not, it enters the objects with the aspect of suffering. If it has not been tamed, it is again released and runs to its own objects, like this: Because of seeing the faults well, even if one definitely wants to escape, one cannot do so, then one should know that these have not yet been well tamed and have not been subdued, and by repeatedly thinking, one should meditate on the mindfulness belonging to the body, having transcended the ultimate attention. If it is well meditated upon, it will not be released to run to its respective objects, and it should be known that it has been well tamed and has been subdued. A monk who has previously accumulated a collection of wisdom, having met with an excellent spiritual friend, listens to the three kinds of faults of conditioned things: this life, the next life, and this life and the next. Among them, the disease that depends on the disturbance of the great elements is the fault of this life. The continuous creation of the actions of bad destinies, and going to bad destinies, is the fault of the next life. Depending on the happiness and desire of the previous and this life, old age and death in this life and the next are the faults of this life and the next. If these are summarized, it is like this: By way of determining good and bad destinies, it transforms into three kinds of suffering: the suffering of disease, the suffering of bad destinies, and the suffering of old age and death. Having heard these faults, if one diligently practices the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, then one will be able to comprehend the truths. Then, with the knowledge of selflessness being extremely pure, like entering an empty room, one directly realizes the emptiness of the internal and external sources. At that time, with wisdom, one understands that one is afflicted by the afflictions arising from forgetfulness due to dependence on objects, and that the remaining afflictive latent tendencies and craving latent tendencies, oneself is with afflictions, with craving, with suffering, and with affliction, and one comprehends that the realm of Nirvana with remainder, which has the remainder of the aggregates, is beyond all afflictions and existence.
