Through conditions, one thinks that the concept of a monastery and the feelings and mind that are similar to it are not empty. However, within the form of the concept, some coarse, unpacified concepts like diseases are empty, while the extremely subtle parts are seen as non-empty. Therefore, instead of contemplating the concept of a monastery, one contemplates the concept of the earth in various forms, such as trees, grass, forests, mountains, mountain goats, and various kinds of birds. Furthermore, instead of contemplating the unevenness, the ups and downs, the thorns, the gravel, and the many pebbles in the concept of the earth, one contemplates a smooth and even form like the palm of a hand. After that, abandoning the concept of form, one contemplates the concepts of infinite space, infinite consciousness, and nothingness. Then, one contemplates neither perception nor non-perception, the realm without characteristics. In short, everything is elevated into emptiness as before, the lower is considered a coarse concept, and the higher is considered an extremely peaceful concept. Therefore, this is recognized as the emptiness meditated upon by noble hearers who, through the worldly path, have become detached from desire for the realm of nothingness. After that, by moistening the form of the noble path with forms such as impermanence, one becomes detached from desire for the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Therefore, one thinks of one's own body in this way: the form of the concept is like this, it is empty of all defilements. For the sake of complete peace, it is without disease. There is also non-emptiness here, for example, due to the conditions of this place, the six sense bases are not empty of each other, but are produced by conditions until the end of life. When the Bhagavan became a Bodhisattva, he mostly dwelt in emptiness, and therefore attained unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, not by dwelling on the contemplation of impermanence and suffering. Therefore, even when enlightenment is attained, dwelling in emptiness is the most excellent, and it follows the previous habit.

Therefore, he himself mostly abides in it. Emptiness is of two kinds: manifest emptiness and meditative emptiness. A monk who dwells in a place of bustle will not accomplish both abidings, that is, he will not manifest manifest emptiness, nor will he meditate on meditative emptiness. Because these two situations cannot be accomplished, it should be known that one will completely lose the four kinds of happiness. These four kinds of happiness are: the happiness of liberation from suffering arising from detachment from all attachments; the solitary happiness of the first dhyana, which is liberation from desire and malice; the peaceful happiness that brings permanence and discrimination to rest; and the happiness of perfect enlightenment, which is encompassed by two kinds of liberation and encompassed by non-attachment and complete non-distraction. Among these, the two kinds of liberation refer to the suffering of time and conjunction, and the immovable liberation of mind. Among these, an Arhat, because of dull faculties, is a phenomenon that will degenerate from worldly samadhi. In order to be liberated from the obscuration of samadhi, it is called the suffering of time and conjunction, the liberation of mind. Like this, because it is a phenomenon that will degenerate, it will degenerate from time to time, and it will also manifest. Because in this life one abides in touching happiness, it is called suffering. Among these, the immovable refers to liberation through all the uncontaminated paths, which will never degenerate. If an Arhat, because of sharp faculties, is a phenomenon that will not degenerate from worldly samadhi, then it should be known that, in its exact meaning, it is called the meaning of time. The rest is the same as before. Among these, non-attachment and complete non-distraction refer to the fact that one cannot find even one thing that makes the Arhat's mind happy, or that changes and transforms, thereby causing sorrow, and so on. Among these, manifest emptiness is:
