What is said to be free from distractions, stemming from a love of solitude and meditation. What speech, then, is beneficial for a mind without obscurations? This should be understood in three ways: it is beneficial for the absence of obscuration of all obscurations of afflictions, beneficial for the absence of obscuration of the five obscurations, and beneficial for the absence of obscuration of the obscuration of ignorance. The first of these stems from the realm of renunciation, detachment, and cessation, and it should be recognized that this is what is to be attained. The second stems from seeing the benefits in these very things, and it should be recognized that it is speech about the faults of the obscurations that are contrary to them, and the formations that are the places of obscuration. The third should be recognized as speech that is in accordance with dependent arising of these very conditions, and these three aspects are also limbs of higher seeing. In short, it is what generates aspiration, connects to the correct assembly, and connects to correct attention. Among these, the noble is what generates aspiration. Reducing necessities is what connects to the correct assembly. What is beneficial for a mind without obscurations is what connects to correct attention. The wisdom that belongs to calm abiding based on these words is higher seeing, and therefore it is called a limb of higher seeing. What is constant reverence? It is, for example, the exertion of effort in the very union of calm abiding and higher seeing, which is what makes it a continuous dwelling and purifies it. That exertion of effort should also be understood in five ways: that is, exertion like armor, exertion of joining, exertion without discouragement, unwavering exertion, and exertion without contentment. In the beginning, one is endowed with strong desire, and joy becomes firm. Similarly, one also engages in joining. For the sake of attaining vast Dharma, one does not spare oneself, and therefore one does not become discouraged. One also endures harms such as cold.
