It cuts off the life force. For example, if someone has an enemy and knows they cannot kill them with power, they first make them trust them by letting them enjoy desirable things. Knowing they have gained their trust, they then take their life. Similarly, ordinary beings, like people in samsara, cling to the view of the aggregates as something to be suffered in the future. They indulge in attachment to desirable conditioned things, and in this way, foolish ordinary beings are also killed. They do not see the faults of the view of the aggregates, but instead see it as beneficial. Having placed their trust in this way, they completely lose the life force of noble wisdom that they have not yet attained, and thus they are utterly ruined. These two things are the places where outsiders become doubtful and confused about the Dharma and Vinaya. What are these two? One is that the Tathagata abandons both the view of existence and the view of non-existence. The second is the prediction that some Shravakas will attain Nirvana after death, and some will not. The third is that, ultimately, they do not perceive a permanent "self" in this life or the next. And the three teachers: the eternalists, the annihilationists, and the teachers who understand the existence of the Tathagata. The causes of doubt and confusion are twofold, and should be understood as being like something disguised as the holy Dharma. What should be abandoned is also the same, namely the two teachings. This doctrine of selflessness is difficult for outsiders to enter and understand for two reasons: firstly, it is difficult to understand by its very nature, and secondly, they do not understand how it can be easily understood. Therefore, it is different from them. Because of the meaning of non-deception, the meaning of understanding, and the meaning of being uncommon, it is difficult to enter by its very nature. Because it is profound and appears to be profound, this is the meaning of non-deception. Because it is difficult to see for oneself, but one can understand the teachings from the words of others, this is the meaning of understanding. Because it is not the domain of speculation, and speculators cannot investigate it, this is the meaning of being uncommon.
