It should be understood that this is the teaching on the lineage of the Tathāgata. Among these, the true teaching of the Tathāgata is this: Whatever the wise in the world consider to exist, the Tathāgata also says exists. For example, "All conditioned things are impermanent." Whatever they consider not to exist, the Tathāgata also says does not exist. For example, "Conditioned things are permanent." Among these, the beneficial teaching of the Tathāgata is this: Those worldly dharmas that worldly blind people cannot know themselves, the Tathāgata himself fully awakens to and then teaches. Among these, the Tathāgata's agreement with the world's intentions in some respects is this: Some people rely on rotten drums and dilapidated containers to make a living, and people consider them wealthy, rich, and enjoying great abundance. The Tathāgata also, like those people, uses terminology in accordance with worldly conventions. For example, in some places, people give different names to the same thing, and the Tathāgata also, like them, uses terminology in accordance with worldly conventions. Towards enemies, one does not speak reasonably, nor does one speak truthfully, nor does one speak beneficially, nor does one speak in accordance with their wishes. Therefore, it should be understood that the Tathāgata is not an enemy. Even without being asked, he himself truly sees the meaning and teaches the Dharma of complete enlightenment, expressing it with appropriate collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters. This is like what is explained from the Compendium of Names to the True Explanation, and should be understood accordingly. Furthermore, for the sprout of rebirth to arise, there is one cause and two conditions. That is, for the five aggregates, consciousness with the seed of afflictions is the cause. The place of consciousness, like a field; and joy and desire, which moisten it so that consciousness connects here and there, are the conditions. Among these, some people think
