One will be freed from bondage, but children, coming and going in the cycle after death, remain connected to bondage. External renunciates, having abandoned desire, will be liberated from that bondage. Enemies also cannot bind them, but children, even if they are free from the desire to attain the peak of existence and below, will not be liberated, let alone merely being ordained. Even in the stages of being free from desire, they will still be under the control of powerful demons. In the stages of not being free from desire, they will be completely controlled. The stages of ordination are like being under punishment. The stages of being at home are to do whatever one pleases. Therefore, in the stages of not being free from desire, one is bound by the bonds of demons. Even if one is born at the peak of existence through the worldly path, one is not completely liberated from the ropes of demons. The wisdom liberation of the Tathagata and Arhat is generally understood to have four aspects of similarity and difference. Among them, one is the same, that is, generally they are all liberated. Three are different, that is, the attainment of enlightenment, the power of teaching, and diligent practice. The Tathagata is self-taught, and through practicing the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, he himself attains perfect and complete enlightenment. Having thus attained perfect and complete enlightenment, he tirelessly strives for the benefit of others, fully knowing all the circumstances of those who have the opportunity in this life and those who do not, as well as those who have seen the Dharma and those who have not. He himself attains perfect enlightenment, and thus also fully knows the benefit of others, thereby being liberated from the two obscurations, namely the obscuration of afflictions along with its habitual tendencies, and all the obscurations of knowable objects. He will also become the unparalleled teacher of liberation for the world, including the gods. His four perfect enlightenments are the Shravakas.

And one should recognize the uncommon aspects. Furthermore, from the perspective of benefiting others, the power of the teachings should also be recognized as uncommon through five aspects. What are these five? Here, the Tathagata knows what is the path, in all aspects, as it truly is; and what is not the path, he also knows as it truly is. Having known this, he does not go astray onto non-paths, and in order to lead beings onto the right path, he truthfully reveals the path and the non-path. For those who wish to proceed according to the path as it has been shown, in order to enable them to correctly and diligently practice that path, he teaches by imparting instructions on how to cultivate mindfulness, which are supported by skillful means and generated by reason. As it has been taught, in the process of diligent practice, he eliminates whatever faults obstruct calm abiding and insight, and he promotes whatever factors are conducive. This is the distinct power of the teachings. Among these, the distinctiveness of diligent practice is that they rely on the Tathagata and, under his guidance, practice correctly and diligently, while the Tathagata does not rely on anyone. They are those who possess the lineage of the Hearers (Śrāvakas), so they practice diligently; while the Tathagata possesses his own lineage. Some of them are already ripe, while others are to be ripened in the future; but for the continuum of a Bodhisattva in his last existence, there is no such distinction. Those who are not yet ripe are those who follow the path, and they will ripen their continuum in the future. Those who are already ripe act according to the teachings shown in this very life, and both diligently practice exactly as it has been taught. Those who follow the path will attain Nirvana in the future. Those who act according to the teachings shown in this very life will, with this very body, accomplish the path and the fruit of the path, which is Nirvana. Therefore, the noble path is harmless, blissful, and is a reasoning that possesses fruit.
