It should be understood according to how it arises. In summary: strength and complete purity, as well as detailed distinctions and categories, the conduct of ascetics, and the conduct of Brahmins are the last. For the arising of the Noble Eightfold Path, among all the external and internal strengths, two strengths are the most supreme of all. What are the two? Among the external ones, it is the virtuous friend. Among the internal ones, it is proper attention. The absence of obstacles to improper attention, as well as previously accumulated merit, and the absence of poverty in clothing, etc., should also be understood as external strengths. Apart from the wisdom that is in accordance with proper attention, the other limbs of abandonment should be understood as internal strengths. If there is a virtuous friend, then hearing the sacred Dharma, which is called "other's voice," will exist. After that, internal proper attention will arise. After that, the path of right view, etc., will arise. Whatever is the learning of right view, etc., is called "completely pure" because it is without outflows. Whatever is non-learning is called "completely liberated" because the continuum is completely purified. Here, whatever is worldly, that is, those who indulge in various sins at will, are without afflictions because they are unrelated to the views of externalist eternalists, etc. Because it is free from the pervasive afflictions of karma that are aroused by afflictions and lead to rebirth, it is called "free from near afflictions." In short, all of the Noble Eightfold Path can be summarized into two states, and therefore should be understood as two types: worldly and transcendental. Among them, whatever is worldly is associated with the three outflows and the four attachments, so it will not lead to the cessation of suffering. Because it is virtuous, it will lead to going to a happy realm. Whatever is transcendental is the opposite of that, and it will lead to the cessation of suffering. The detailed distinction of the limbs of right view, etc., is as follows: it arises from the collection of Hearers and categories.
