Recognizing that it is suffering, one transcends the peak of existence. Abandoning all afflictions in this life is the liberation of the noble ones alone, therefore it is called the liberation of the noble ones. If all of these are gathered together, they become five places: the path to the immovable, going to the sphere of nothingness, going to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, passing into nirvana in this life, and the liberation of the noble ones. These three are the faults of desires, for desires are the cause of generating craving for objects that will be experienced as pleasure, the cause of generating malice towards places where suffering is felt, and the cause of generating the misdeeds of ignorance towards places where neither suffering nor pleasure is felt. These desires should also be viewed as faults from the perspective of three aspects: nature, object, and friend. Among these, nature is the attachment of pervasive thought. The object is the five types of internal and external form realms. The friend is the inverted perception that corresponds to proper attention. The mind that arises from the practice of detachment from desire for the higher realms is called the great mind. Why is that? Because the higher realm is the greatest and most important, therefore the mind that goes there is called the great mind. From whichever lower realm one becomes detached from desire, one should refute it with aspects such as impermanence; this should be understood as subjugation. Regarding the higher realm to be attained, through the understanding of peace in a hopeful manner, this should be understood as the abode of the mind. Generating the conviction that 'I have perfectly accomplished that abode and am able to attain dwelling,' and thereby cultivating faith in the path of practice, this is called complete faith in the mind towards the sphere. Through that faith, cultivating diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom, from the first dhyana onwards, one gradually enters into the formless realms, up to the immovable state of the sphere of infinite consciousness.

What is entering into concentration? It is understood with wisdom and faith. That consciousness will be born in the immovable realm. If one cannot completely pass into nirvana in this life, or cannot ascend further, then in the next life, one will approach immovability. It should be understood that in these realms, immovability is established by three causes. Because the distraction of external desires is abandoned, the first dhyana is immovable. Because all the movements of investigation, analysis, joy, bliss, and activity in form are abandoned, the fourth dhyana is immovable. Because the movements of form, resistance, and various perceptions are abandoned, the realms of infinite space and infinite consciousness are immovable. The second and third dhyanas should be understood as immovable because they abandon movement from higher to higher states. In the realm of infinite consciousness, it should be understood as immovable because it is separated only from the movement of the object of observation that looks outward to the realm of infinite space. In short, because the samadhi that focuses on a small part is immovable, it is called immovable. Moreover, because the realm of infinite consciousness is the ultimate, it should be understood that from this point onwards, it is established as immovable. All the samapattis that focus on a small part are the samapattis of perception that exist from above. Beyond that is the samapatti that focuses on nothingness, and it should be understood as the samapatti of perception that is above nothingness. Beyond that is the samapatti of the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Therefore, the three paths are shown from the three doors. For what reason do noble Shravakas refute desires from the three doors, and after refuting them, gradually enter into concentration up to the realm of infinite consciousness? Therefore, the three paths to enter the immovable realm are also established. After refuting form perception and immovable perception in all the lower realms, one enters into the realm of nothingness. This is the first path to enter the realm of nothingness. The undefiled path.
