It is like arising from the ground that corresponds to being placed in sameness. Matters such as eating and drinking should also be understood as arising from the Hearer's Ground. Therefore, for the sake of material enjoyment, I should proceed in this way with the retinues of kings, Brahmins, and householders, and for the sake of Dharma enjoyment, with the retinues of monks: the body should be extremely guarded, the senses should be extremely restrained, and the mind should be firmly established in mindfulness, standing at the door, and not entering until permission is granted. Even if one enters, one should not go near the seat until permission is granted. Even if one sits down, one should not drop the body heavily, thinking in this way, and then applying it in detail. There are five kinds of speech that should be spoken: timely, reasoned, appropriate, peaceful, and truthful. There are five times when one should remain silent: when distracted, when obstructing, when quarreling, when sitting and seeking faults, when borrowing, and when speaking, because the end of the conversation has stopped. So, when is it appropriate to speak? When one is distracted, or not busy, or unwilling to listen, or not behaving appropriately, one should not speak; having already shown what needs to be done, then showing its special qualities; after the end of the conversation has stopped, speaking to others, those similar to this should be understood as times when it is appropriate to speak. Relying on four kinds of reasoning, whatever is in accordance with true words and meaning is called reasoning. Speaking only as much as is necessary with appropriate words and letters, neither too little nor too much, not mixing, and not speaking meaningless words, this is called speaking appropriately. Speaking without arrogance, not being verbose, without physical misconduct, and without verbal misconduct, this is called speaking peacefully. Without pretense, speaking unfeigned words, and speaking directly because of being free from deceit, this should be understood as speaking truthfully. Without having virtuous qualities such as faith, one should not have manifest pride thinking that one has them, and one should not exaggerate even small things, but whatever there is, and however much there is, then

Knowing well how life is truly, therefore I know myself. Therefore, taking the precepts purely with faith as the forerunner, seeking to hear completely with taking the precepts purely as the forerunner, abandoning faults with that as the forerunner, not regarding all possessions, body, and life, and with that as the forerunner, placing the mind evenly, one knows correctly. These five dharmas are also well distinguished by four causes: the teachings of others, relying on the authority of the teachings, one's own realization, the courage to naturally contemplate, and through previous habituation, having the virtuous manner of naturally applying the qualities to that. "Beings are these two" means showing them in pairs of two. "These two are" means distinguishing them. "Among these two, this is good" should be understood as distinguishing the differences. The benefits of meditating on the seven noble dharmas are two: the happiness of diligently practicing in this life, and the happiness of mental joy arising from the direct realization of the truth of what is to be known, abiding mostly in the happiness of mental joy, and that abiding itself is the way to become the exhaustion of defilements. In order to meditate on the dharmas that are in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, in the well-spoken Vinaya, in short, all dharmas are summarized by the trainings and the results of the trainings. What are the trainings? The three trainings: higher discipline, higher mind, and higher wisdom. What are the results of the trainings? The realm of Nirvana with remainder and the realm of Nirvana without remainder. Here, all dharmas are these: wishing for the Dharma is good for the sake of going forth and attaining Nirvana, and only at the beginning does one take the pure precepts correctly. Because one will eventually gradually enter completely into Nirvana, therefore those are said to have the root of wishing. Those also rely on the precepts, holding the hearing that is complete with hearing the true Dharma, and the excellent words arising from the power of hearing the true Dharma, and the collection of wisdom will be accomplished by contact, therefore
