It is to be obtained through absorption. For example, having grasped the sign of light, one meditates on the samadhi endowed with the perception of light. Goodness, space, infinite consciousness, and nothingness are also the same. The realm of neither perception nor non-perception, because perception is very subtle, one thinks that these quietudes are supreme in existence, and with such aspiration, one enters into absorption by not attending to signs. Therefore, that is to be obtained through the absorption of the peak of existence. The realm of cessation is also obtained by not attending to all signs and attending to the realm of no-sign, therefore, the absorption of cessation into aggregates is obtained by no-sign, not by the absorption of volition. Therefore, these are to be obtained. Those absorptions are obtained, workable, and independent as one pleases, because the desire for form and formlessness has been completely destroyed, there is no subsequent attachment, there is no anger, one abides in liberation, and one is liberated by abiding. This is the attainment of those realms. Attainment is to be known as making one a meditative person of the eight liberations. Therein, by attaining the first realm, one becomes a meditative person of the first and second liberations. By the second, one becomes a meditative person of the third liberation. By the remaining five, one becomes a meditative person of the five liberations in order. From this, other non-Buddhist heretics teach the Dharma to their disciples in order to make distinctions in three places. Some are inferior, teaching the path to rebirth in the desire realm from those who are not qualified up to the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin. Some are middling, such as those who are equal in merit to the Brahma world in the form realm. Some are excellent, teaching the path to rebirth in the formless realm up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Those who rely on the inferior realm are evil speech. Those who rely on the middling are middling. Those who rely on the excellent are excellent.

O! Those disciples who, having heard this Dharma, hold it in such a way, their perception is bad, middling, and excellent. The extent to which they hold it, their patience and desire, are their bad, middling, and excellent views. They, having become patient in this way and seeing in this way, believing that it is happiness and excellence in those places of birth, doing the work that is in accordance with it, is their bad, middling, and excellent thought. They, having done that work, seek that birth. It is their bad, middling, and excellent seeking. When they seek it, those who abide in celibacy rejoice completely there, which is their bad, middling, and excellent wish. Whoever is the teacher and whoever is the diligent practitioner, both of these should be known as bad, middling, and excellent. That teacher and those diligent practitioners also speak of bad, middling, and excellent to others, and they will also be born in the same way. Depending on the difference of births from higher to higher, their realms are established as bad, middling, and excellent, but if we look at nirvana, all three realms are bad. Here, the Tathagata speaks based on the true and excellent realm, and it is only excellent. Other than that, the dharmas should also be known as appropriate. Those who diligently practice and realize the Dharma that is in accordance with the Blessed One's disciples, their conduct is that of the noble ones. Like this, nirvana in this life. Here, those who were formerly non-Buddhists, having died at the time of death, and having been born here, depending on the accumulation of causes and conditions of growth, those who have renounced in the well-spoken Dharma Vinaya, are completely deluded by the views of the former non-Buddhists, and now the great realm of ignorance will be truly accomplished, so they will also have doubts about nirvana, and they will also have doubts about the teacher, from the former cause.
