Moreover, this recognition is the false recognition of others regarding the pleasant and unpleasant. Even if one comes into contact with the collection of pleasant and unpleasant hands, sticks, and clods of earth, and universally enjoys these contacts, he does not generate recognition of non-material phenomena such as feelings as causes. Because he correctly sees these phenomena as impermanent, he neither clings to them nor becomes angry. He focuses on merely the limits, and his mind dwells completely on the body. Therefore, he does not become completely deluded. Whether it is the recognition that distinguishes externalists in detail, or the recognition of the external four great elements as impermanent, or the recognition of the internal as impure and impermanent, or the recognition of impermanence as suffering, or the recognition of suffering as selfless, or the recognition of all phenomena such as feelings that depend on the four great elements as impermanent, there is no universal attachment, no universal hatred, and no universal ignorance. These are on the ground of complete purification, when practicing mindfulness related to the body, the arising of various virtuous dharmas of the aspect of insight. So, what is calm abiding? What are the virtuous dharmas that arise in accordance with the aspect of calm abiding, from cultivating mindfulness related to the body? He strives for calm abiding by relying on insight itself, and calm abiding is the inner abiding of the mind. The virtuous dharmas that are in accordance with the aspect of calm abiding are as follows: By gaining the power of such discriminating observation, he is taught the teachings of virtuous conduct. Even if others cause harm, he endures it, and cultivates loving-kindness focused on it. Therefore, his discipline, which is completely encompassed by endurance and loving-kindness, becomes completely pure. Seeing that the discipline is completely pure, he thinks: I am acting in accordance with the teachings of the teacher. In this way, he becomes free from regret. Without regret, one should extend extreme joy to samadhi. At that time, by equally abiding the mind, he is able to reach the fourth dhyana.

also becomes dull, and that samadhi is also completely controlled by volition, not arising in union, and not completely pure. Therefore, in order to make it completely pure, he cultivates mindfulness completely controlled by the four limbs as before, starting from "initiating diligence without discouragement" and speaking extensively, and later his fourth dhyana becomes completely pure and completely subdued. If he becomes delighted by tasting the samadhi of peace, and also does not truly abide in equanimity towards that samadhi, and also regards cessation and nirvana as peaceful, then he relies on the Buddha, Dharma, or Sangha and arises with such aversion and sorrow: If I rely on my teacher, the Tathagata, and his well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and the well-entered Sangha, and cling to the view of the aggregates of destruction, and do not regard the peaceful nirvana as peaceful, then this is not my attainment, nor my benefit, I think I have gained faults, not merits. In order to make his mind capable, as soon as such sorrow arises, he should abide in equanimity in a way that possesses the meaning of the Dharma of a Shramana, and also regard nirvana as peaceful. These are the arising of virtuous dharmas that are in accordance with tranquility and insight, namely: patience, love, complete purity of discipline, no regret, extreme joy, up to samadhi, mindfulness completely controlled by the four limbs, possessing the good meaning of equanimity, etc. At that time, he does many things through the teachings indicated by wisdom, through the means of two causes: to make the fourth dhyana completely pure in order to exhaust defilements, and to abandon the mind from the view of the aggregates of destruction. Only this is enough, and his place of complete subdual is complete. But he does not think that this alone is enough. Therefore, he abides in the place of realization previously made, and again cultivates the mindfulness belonging to the body, seeing the physical body arising from causes as the same as grass, trees, and earth. That which is not colored arising from it
