For the sake of doing. It is combined with four causes. What are the four? They are: guarding the body well, restraining the senses well, abiding in mindfulness well, and how to obtain the wisdom of transcendence and worldly transcendence, as well as destruction, repeatedly practicing. He who dwells guarding the body well, like avoiding a raging elephant from afar, as explained extensively, from the Hearer's Ground, thus combined, if one can completely cut off, then it will never be an obstacle to the exhaustion of all outflows. He who dwells restraining the senses well, when an object of attachment appears, abandons the sign of impurity through improper attention and focuses on the sign of impurity. He who dwells in mindfulness well dwells in four places, such as examining and enjoying clothing and other things, and in secluded places, eliminating all evil thoughts, and enduring the fatigue arising from initiating diligence, and disturbances, and the suffering that causes outflow, and the harsh words arising from others, and the suffering arising from the imbalance of elements. Thus, cultivating the path, abiding without confusion through the gate of non-negligence, is called dwelling in mindfulness well. Thus, guarding the body well, restraining the senses well, dwelling in mindfulness well, and relying on how to obtain the path through cultivation, one can also be liberated from the outflows that should be abandoned and obtain the ultimate limit. Some say that these are the Four Noble Truths, that I or any sentient being, with these truths as objects, cultivate all virtuous dharmas. One should not say that, but should say this. Why? Because all virtuous dharmas, whether many or few, worldly or transcendent, that arise, all of them are included in these Four Noble Truths. There are two: knowledge and the knowable. That knowledge is also knowable, therefore those who are associated with the knowledge of virtuous dharmas are all included in the Truths. They also

In short, the aspects of Vipassanā that are in accordance with mindfulness of the body, and the aspects of Śamatha that are in accordance with it, will arise in the ground of complete purification and the ground of guarding what has been done. What is mindfulness belonging to the body? On the ground of complete purification, whatever focuses on the form of the great elements, internal and external, or when others universally experience suffering and non-suffering false words, and the combined touch with obstruction, the feeling, recognition, volition, and consciousness of the combined touch in accordance with the way, and on the ground of guarding what has been done, whatever focuses on the form arising from causes, or the feeling, recognition, volition, and consciousness arising from them in conjunction with attention. Gathering all of these together is focusing on the body of form and focusing on the body of name, which is recognized as mindfulness belonging to the body. What is Vipassanā? What are the virtuous dharmas that are in accordance with the aspects of Vipassanā? Whatever is the complete and accurate differentiation by wisdom of the internal and external great elements and the aggregates that are not them, this is Vipassanā. Initially, it is only the differentiation of the perception of wholeness, and on the external great elements, perceiving impermanence through seeing the defilements transformed from destruction as they really are. And the internal body of the great elements is gradually nourished by appropriate food, seeing it as impure as it really is, and thus perceiving it as unattractive. Seeing that it arises from craving as it really is, and that in the future it is of the nature of death, and thus perceiving impermanence, and in impermanence, one will also perceive suffering. Children, not fully knowing impermanence and suffering as they really are, think, 'Which body is 'I'?' or 'Mine'?' or they think 'I'. However, noble hearers who possess learning do not grasp it in this way because they know it well, and their perception will be perceiving no-self in suffering, and will perceive it as not-self, and will perceive that the body is merely elements. Thus
